Michigan State

DID YOU LOOK AT HIS RESUME?

HE HAS HAD PLENTY OF VERY GOOD DEFENSES…

WE ARE TALKING ABOUT TACKLING AND CONTAINMENT…

NOW YOU ARE CHANGING TO SCHEMES?

HE PLAYED 3 FRESHMAN LBS YEAR ONE…

46 vs 11! You keep moving the goal posts.

46 vs 11 blue chippers and now it is the blue chippers fault.

I’m just pointing out that in 2018, he changed the scheme to use Finley as SAM/Striker. You telling me Gil, Carter, Chase Smith aren’t as good as Gil and Finley with McCloud playing SAM some again heavy sets?

Gee- I wonder why they don’t have any big SAMs for days like MSU and Bama.

NAH YOU GUYS ARE MOVING THE GOAL POST…

YOU ARE SAYING A GUY THAT HAD MULTIPLE VERY GOOD TO GREAT DEFENSE BECAUSE #4 IN TOTAL DEFENSE IS GREAT CAN’T TEACH “TACKLING” AND “CONTAINMENT” AND NOW SCHEME…

HOW DID HE DO IT?

There was never a GREAT Manny Diaz defense…Please stop

#4 IN THE NATION IN TOTAL DEFENSE ISN’T GREAT?

#1 IN MULTIPLE CATEGORIES?

WHAT IS GREAT?

Well the main reason was a pretty Weak schedule…Those stats aren’t adjusted for schedule. No one except TV announcers use those 1955 non-adjusted stats anymore. (we were #9 in FEI…#14 in SP+ that year)

But yes your point is taken…He’s had some pretty good defenses. I don’t hate him as a defensive coordinator. But A. Offenses and Defenses are constantly evolving. What he is doing is maybe not as novel anymore because 800 yards (for example) is unacceptable in any game…It seems like a blitzing 4-2-5 is something new offenses are adjusting to B. Who cares what he did in 2018? He’s moved backwards since…Is it ok with you if he is in the 30s this year? What about next year? Are you still going to to point back to 2018 and say hey guys you have no reason to bitch!! He had a good D in 2018!!

I would still entertain the idea of Diaz as a DC…But he’s definitely been heading in the wrong direction in that aspect as well.

Why do we have to explain why he can’t coach tackling and containment? He has to explain it…He hast fix it…Not us? Maybe as head coach his assistants are coaching it well? Maybe his practices are not productive enough? Some guys are better coordinators than head coaches…It’s really that simple.

The point is there is a TON that needs fixed. I don’t think anyone with a brain expects us to be Bama…Just a lot better than we are at this stage.

And the additional point is…I’m talking Manny Diaz the HC…Not the DC

Yea I just explained in the other post

He wasn’t the 4th best defense lol…Wake up. Whoa Nelly Keith Jackson may tell you that and use that stat

In the year you selected 2018 Army was the 8th ranked in total defense…App State was 5th in total defense. Do you believe they were the 5th and 8th best?

And I’m not even saying he hasn’t fielded good defenses…He obviously has. I believe we were top 10-15 that year. The point is…A. They weren’t elite…B. They are going backwards. C. It doesn’t matter that he’s had a good defense here and there…They need to be at the level again.

time to :lock:

I’d actually say they need to be better than 2018 every year but I’ll hear about how Miami doesn’t have the talent.

Thus, you can have 75 4-5star kids and your stupid ass coach will play the 2* kids because they don’t make mistakes but never make plays. THAT IS A COACHING FAILURE!

“At some point you gotta honor what the film says and play guys that can make plays,” said Diaz. “We’ve got to take a look at our personnel and find the best team we can put on the field.”

Completely agree.

Novel idea

But guarantee you he’ll just keep trotting Jennings out there.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think Corey Flagg is a lock and am 50/50 at BEST moving forward with my optimism for him. I hope Trautman takes his job…Then I hope Medlock gets in the mix, portal, etc…But this competitive aspect seems to not be a thing at UM right now.

But Flagg is clearly faster and changes direction better than Jennings who simply is too slow and unathletic to play LB at UM. All he is good for is taking on a lead blocker or tackling a ballcarrier running right at him…And it’s not like he’s Dick Butkus in either of those aspects

Jennings: 2/7 - Yikes bad!
Flagg: 9/6
Steed: 5/9
KSmith: 2/7 (2ish games)
Huff: 0/0- time to say he is a bust?

Gil: 4/5
Carter: 8/8

Hall: 16/5
Kitchens: 5/4
Bolden: 13/10 (2.5 games)
James Williams: 1/2

Maybe Miami needs a Tackle Chain???

This is from a poster on CIS:

From PFF’s Missed Tackles Forced stat:

Alabama - Brian Robinson - 9 MTF’s vs Miami. Previous career high was 7
App St - Camerun Peoples - 9 MTF’s vs Miami. Previous career high was 7
Mich St - Kenneth Walker - 20 MTF’s vs Miami. Previous career high was 10

So each of the first 3 starting RB’s we’ve faced this year have set their career high in Missed Tackles Forced.

For perspective - Last year Cam (17), Chaney (9), and Knighton (7) - COMBINED had 33 MTF’s on 246 carries. We’ve given up 38 MTF’s on only 56 carries in 3 games.

From a pure kinesiology POV, this would show some bad habits being formed at practice. Can someone remind me of who is responsible for that environment? Just asking for a friend as I’ve heard that the only thing that matters is Talent.

Eye opening. And it’s obvious for anybody with two eyes that our tackling technique is bad. I hope somebody shoves these numbers in Diaz’s face and he changes the tackling training. it’s literally the most important change our defense needs.

Is there a stat for running backs who force a defender to tackle a random blocker?

Diaz needs to fire the DC immediately.

Miami leads college football in RBWFADTTARBs.

This [missed tackles] is the reason I think Manny is done already. It’s something of a leading indicator.

As much as people like to over analyze, you don’t play football for 14 years then forget how to tackle. Tackling hurts and risks injury. If you’re playing for something greater, you’re willing to take the pain/risk. If you don’t give a crap, you won’t.

High #s of missed tackles is a symptom of a team that doesn’t care. Manny is a dead man walking.
