Hold onto a 21-0 lead and there’s no need to politic the matter. Geez!
It’s as simple as that. Honestly, do we even want to see this team in the playoff with the way the defense has been playing?
Meanwhile, his recruits are running for the exits. Stubbs, Nix gone. Antoine, Merritt next?
Lord help us.
Of course I want them in the playoffs. Anything can happen. I’d rather them play in that than a bowl in which half the players opt out.
We’re 12th and behind Alabama at 11. Plus ASU and ISU are behind us. One will win the Big 12 and get in so we’ll be out. Either SMU beats Clemson and Alabama gets the last spot or maybe Clemson with a win would get the ACC Champ spot and SMU an at large for their 11-1 regular season? Not sure though. They may just cut them altogether and keep Alabama, forgetting their crushing loss at OU just TWO WEEKS AGO as this committee going back to 2014 when this thing started with four teams each year just loves it’s blue blood teams. SMU needs to win just to not put it to chance.
Here’s what gets me about Miami now. We WON’T be in the playoff so we’ll end up in a meaningless bowl game which means Cam and anyone with NFL hopes (Arroyo, etc) will not play in it. So we can look to get destroyed in it by someone we play as the D is awful and Ward is out. This will keep our HORRIFIC bowl record intact of late. We’ve won ONE BOWL GAME since 2006. That was the Russell Athletic Bowl over West Virginia in 2016.
That’s it since Coker’s last game in that potato bowl over Nevada in 2006.
God, make it stop!!!
To add to this guys, what’s likely to happen is that the ACC gets the Gator Bowl on Thursday, Jan. 2nd. We could land there if the ACCCG loser doesn’t. That would mean a game vs an SEC or B1G school. After filling out the playoff bracket, here’s who the SEC and B1G have left over:
SEC: Mississippi, South Carolina, Missouri, Texas A&M, Louisiana State
B1G: Illinois, Iowa, Michigan
One of them ends up in the Gator Bowl vs us or possibly Clemson. Leaving either us or Clemson who’s out, seeking out the Sun Bowl, Charlotte Bowl or Holiday Bowl (other ACC games this year)
If we go Gator and draw an SEC team, don’t you think those first 3-4 teams would kick the crap out of us? Could be our fate as we’ll probably finish 10-3 to end this year as we figure Cam sits this one out. Not what we wanted, obviously.
If not in playoffs why would cam risk playing in bowl. Why would X or anyone with a possible NFL chance. That’s why this in book is a major fail for Miami. Paid good money for a good qb but failed to complete the whole team aspect by having a shitty defense.
I don’t know if anyone follows NHL but as you tell from my name I follow Colorado Avalanche. They have suffered from the same mentality the past few years. Put good money into scorers but not as much for the goalies. It worked for a while but when other teams figured how to stop the avs offense it has backfired. Avs are not winning like they should and have spent too much to put any towards a good goalie. Some games the lamp gets lit soon much it looks like a damn rave party.
I hope Miami can figure out a balance because I can not see them paying out this kind of money for these results.
Cam should sit out the bowl game unless he feels it could lift his draft stock if he balls out.
I imagine he will sit it out.
I think he is marginal to make an NFL roster anyway.
Let the other QB’s play and let’s see what they got.
Hopefully, Miami can pick up a good QB in the portal like last year with Ward.
Bottom line: Good season overall, not gonna scoff at 10 wins, that’s real progress. But Miami screwed the pooch in the last three games of the season. And here we are. The defense needs to get fixed, the back 7 is just plain bad.
We have a great half of a team. Need to find more balance on both sides of the ball.
What I don’t understand is why we didn’t see more of the talented Freshmen. You can’t tell me Patterson shouldn’t have gotten more playing time than some of the scrubs we ran out there.
If those players weren’t any better, that’s a really big indictment on our D coordinator.
Right now, they’re acting like it’s going to be Miami vs Louisiana State in the Gator Bowl. We’ll see after the weekend’s games and the jockeying afterward if that holds up or not.
You know he’s projected to go in the top 5 stork?
What’s frustrating is paid all that money…
And in that last game with all of that on the line vs.Cuse
Martinez 33 snaps (absolute joke, could have own the game going away with him)
Baron 15 snaps
And kicked a ridiculously stupid FG and took the game out of Cam Ward’s hands
+1000
#1 Offense in the country, you have a single play to make or break your season, and you don’t give Cam Ward a shot? You decide to rely on a defense that could only manage 1 or 2 punts the whole game?
A turnover on downs there is much better field position that a kickoff too. Just mind boggling.
When that idiot stood up in front of the media and smacked the podium, talking about “we’re the Florida program” or some bullshit like that…. I knew he would fuck it up.
Just shut your mouth until you’ve accomplished the task.
No one feels sorry for Mario.
Bad coaching all around to be up 21-0 and then LOSE!! You did it to yourself, Mario
And many a first round QB has completely washed out. We’ll see.
Cam seems to force a lot of throws IMHO. He won’t get away with that in the NFL.
I don’t recall him throwing a ball away all season but maybe he did.
Obviously, it he is drafted in the first round, he will make a roster. He is a Heisman finalist so that helps his draft stock.
Cam did a great job for Miami this season. If Miami only had a good back 7 on defense, they coulda been a contenda.
While disappointed in the last few games, I’m not gonna bitch after the first 10 win season Miami had in a long time. I think Richt won 10 in 2017 and it had been awhile before that season, too.
Hopefully, Miami will break with tradition and win the “Citrus Bowl” this year.
Van Dyke is in the transfer portal.
I saw that. He needs to move on. Holding a clipboard or tablet in the NFL is actually quite lucaritive.
Van Dyke always seemed to me as a clumsy-looking QB who reacted slowly to pressure, and by consequence found himself at 3rd and long too frequently. Van Dyke has a good arm but a pitifully slow delivery. Were I grading him, I’d award him a C- grade.
Ward IMO is the best collegiate QB this year. His quick release is a thing of rare beauty and translates well to the NFL. He exhibits great poise as QB and is wholly unflappable, dealing extremely well with adversity. Had we not had Ward, this season could have been a more typical Miami season as we’ve been accustomed to enduring for the past two decades. Miami led the nation this year in total offense. Unfortunately, our defense failed us. We certainly missed the two safeties from last year’s team. Even our pass rush and blitzing packages seemed a tad too slow.
Mario needs to leave game day management to someone else. In two years, he has made two of the dumbest decisions I’ve seen made in over sixty years of being a Hurricane fan. At Ga Tech last year, we decided to lose rather than win. This year, we decided to accept losing too early in the game, precluding any chance whatsoever of winning it. But, being a Miami fan, your best bet is not to become hysterical and recognize the reality that at Miami shit just happens.
Oh I’m not arguing this and obviously I share your concern with his weaknesses. A lot of 1st round QBs end up busts
When you said “marginal to make an NFL roster” I may have over-reacted. Obviously he’s going to make a roster. Top 3 round selections make rosters.
