Miami looking for a shakeup

So what do you all think?

In the end I think the wagons have already been circled and this is more or less public posturing.

The SEC and Big Ten have the prestige. Why share or dilute further? Maybe they would kick someone out to make room? Kind of like relegation in the ā€œotherā€ football. I doubt having Rutgers and Maryland are paying off as planned for the Big Ten. Getting into new ā€œmarketsā€ and all.

At this point it seems like most of the SEC have gotten their act together. A couple of teams are in a down cycle but not enough to kick them out.

Plus ā€œMiami being Miamiā€ is a sword that cuts both ways. There are still plenty of teams/fans/etc. that would love to see Miami fail. If so, why invite them into the ā€œclubā€?

I’ve waited 23 years just to win an ACC title in football and injuries might well derail that effort now. Do we really think we’ll win a Big Ten title if we go there? M-kay.

But here’s the thing about expanding: if you’re Penn State and you go to the Big Ten, the conference might enjoy an uptick in revenue brought in with your addition. That’s largely due to going from ten teams to eleven. Good luck adding revenue to the existing schools when there’s 18 of them already in the league. That’s really why the merit is there for trading out schools who under produce if you could. It might open up lawsuits but do you think the Big Ten would be better served with Miami, Clemson, North Carolina and Florida State or with Northwestern, Purdue, Maryland and Rutgers?

Yeah, we know the answer to that one. The B1G doesn’t need four more mouths to feed though. But to me, here’s what’s interesting: when you see breaking news and it says USC and UCLA are joining the Big Ten, that didn’t just happen that day. That was being planned for two or more years prior. If we or anyone is talking about leaving, we pretty much have a destination in mind and it’s further along than we’d think. The ACC exit fees and Grant of Rights cost is known now. It drops $18 million a year until 2030 when it levels at $75 million. To me, that’s the year, which coincides with the SEC and then B1G getting new TV contracts. In 2029, it’s $93 million if we want out earlier. Should be interesting to see if we announce a departure by June 1st either of those years to leave 13 months later.

I think they need to be careful what they wish for. Going to sec- are we really good enough to stay competitive on a weekly basis. And willing and have big money to keep paying for top players to compete.

Big 10- what is the record playing in the cold snowy weather? I may be wrong but I don’t think they do well in the cold

The ACC has some good programs IF half the conference could get its act together. Miami, FSU, Clemson being the ā€œbig threeā€. UNC and Duke are basketball schools. SMU is up and down. Pitt, Va, Va Tech, NC State, Wake, BC are mid to lower schools in football. We do have pretty good college pedigree in this conference.

I would say, stay. We aren’t ready for the week in and week out SEC battles, maybe Big Ten but that’s a big maybe. Win your conference first before stepping in to deeper waters.

During the Beamer years Virginia Tech most of the time was a preseason top 25 team. They could really ball out when things clicked. Special teams. If Franklin can work some magic there is tradition to lean on. Perhaps they are a good ACC candidate to return to top 25 quality consistently.

Crazy or not ….I say break ESPN’s chokehold on college-sports…especially college-football. Same as in politics…follow the money ! The NCAA is not an academic body !!! Let the Big-10 and the SEC stay but gather everyone else who wants in and form another athletic body.

The Big-12, PAC-12, ACC , American Conference , Conference USA , The MAC, The Mountain West , Sun Belt , Big Sky.. etc… etc come together under another banner and divvy up the broadcasting rights to TV viewing/streaming platforms. Then when the NCAA and of course…ESPN…both sue …tell ā€˜em ā€œLet’s go ! Let’s see what the discovery process revealsā€. Then you drag up every dirty detail you find and drag their asses over the coals .
