Media Coverage of Miami

Not about good or bad coverage, bias, etc. Does anyone regularly read the Miami Herald or Sun-Sentinel sports? Or Manny now at The Athletic? I tend to breeze through these websites and rarely do I find anything of note besides a public announcement about personnel (signings, transfers, etc.).

When I was a kid in Davie in the 80’s I used to read them religiously as there was no internet then. Hell, people read The Sporting News. Kind of wondering who their audience is? Very young people? Very old people? The clueless?

Has Barry Jackson, Greg Cote, Dave Hyde, or Mike Bianchi broken a story in the past decade?

Sporting news was my favorite. Barry Jackson once made a quote up about me in one of his articles. Did not sit well with me.

I also loved the Sporting News. If I was not such a cheapskate I would look at getting a subscription to the Athletic. I hear it is pretty good.

With that said I have been so uninterested in college football the last couple of years I have not noticed if there has been any articles written about Miami. What are they going to say. Miami will win 7 games this year? 20 years of hype that Miami is back. 20 years of Miami has hot new talent. Is Cristobal the answer? Not on game days. Can you develop talent anymore and keep them? Does not seem like it. Not going to throw to the TE’s anymore? why recruit them and not consistently move the chains. The kids we have gotten were all dance and no reason to do it. I come to this spot out of habit but was once an unhealthy habit of twice a day has happened once a week or less. Will see if I even buy a Phil Steele mag this year. My 50 year old eyes can not read the print anymore without cheaters.

It’s that time of year where the local newspapers are filled daily with articles previewing training camp and assessing the team positionally. Interviewing coaches to ensure there’s a healthy dose of coachspeak going around. Once again, I skim the articles and they all feel like deja vu all over again. Template sentence [insert player name] [flying around] [could be the best of the group] [very smart] [competes hard] and so on.

Reading between the lines Guidry does not seem impressed with Bobby Washington and Raul Aguirre. And saying UM will play nickel by committee doesn’t sound all that promising. Hopefully different scene come September.

In the interest of stirring the pot (rock soup?), I keep reading that Isaiah Horton “shouldn’t be overlooked.” Isn’t that a way of saying he ain’t really making the rotation?

Ray-Ray Joseph and Robby Washington also seem to be in the camp of “will transfer after the 2024 season.” No clue personally but sort of expected to be hearing their names rocketing to the fore given the hype coming in. Of course, it’s all flavor of the day and Ny Carr and JoJo Trader are today’s appointed saviors at WR.

Ehhh…I don’t know, I think you are a bit quick on the first two. I guess that is a possibility Horton, since they brought Brown in over him or at least to battle for that role. But everyone’s raving, and he did redshirt his first year. With 3 seniors leaving this year, unless you are right and it is hype…He is the starter next year. I think he is a solid #4 this year, and if the hype is real, maybe he beats out Sam Brown, although I doubt they gave Brown NIL money to sit.

Definitely think you are wrong on Joseph. He is only not a starter because we have one of the best slots in front of him, and the kid seems to be all Cane

Washington I think you may be right…Loved him out of high school, but the staff seems to prefer Joseph. Hopefully we at least see a little bit of Washington on KR/PR this year. He housed a bunch of kicks his jr and sr year in Dade.
