This is a problem.
I mean, he’s right. It’s ridiculous
I don’t necessarily disagree about trans athletes in women leagues, but is the expectation that a man would have fared better getting beamed in the face with a 70 mph ball?
Ok, so this is what I’m talking about.
People get hit in the head in volleyball, and it often knocks them out or injures them. This is true for women vs. women and men vs. men.
So I see a video like this, and I see a guy railing through his ideology, and he uses the video of the woman getting knocked out as an emotional hook.
Anytime someone.uses an emotional argument against you, they are attempting to manipulate you.
So this guy uses the video to upset you, so you think “that’s awful,” and then you’re more likely to listen to what he has to say, and more likely to agree with him.
And like I said, I don’t necessarily disagree with the big picture, but I will call out a BS argument if I think I see one, no matter “which side” they’re arguing for. And I guess I’m not convinced that this particular argument has merit.
Pretty reasonable response, thanks. Didn’t necessarily think about that
They should have their own league.
That men compete against women is a women’s rights issue. Even liberals concede that men have a genetic strength advantage over women. When it comes to gender issues and sports, count me to side with my Muslim friends.
Men have higher bone and muscle density and were designed (yes, designed) to be more resistant to injuries than women. So while a man may get hurt it wouldn’t be as severe in most cases as a woman getting hit under the same circumstances.
Now reverse it. Put a woman at bat with a guy throwing 100+. Plunk her. You may kill her.
Women and men should not be on the same field of competition for any sport that is physical.
I saw Serena Williams explaining how she doesn’t want to play any men because even the bottom rung of profession male tennis players are much much faster and stronger than she is. She tells a story of playing a guy ranked somewhere in the 200’s where he beat her 6-1 6-0 or something like that.
She’s considered the greatest female tennis player of al time. She’s revered for her speed and strength and she can’t beat a nobody male tennis player no one’s heard of lol.
I’ll even extend this to chess.
The greatest women are pedestrian vs the men.
There’s only been one woman who could play against the men competently from my recollection. Judit Polger. And even she lost way more than she ever won and she’s a brilliant attacking player.
Lmfao
I know about the Serena stuff and agree that she’s not in the top 300 players in the world. And I agree that’s the point of women’s leagues. The men’s leagues usually aren’t even “men’s” leagues - they’re usually open to any individual to compete. It’s the women’s league that are restricted precisely to allow women to compete.
So yes, I do generally agree with the argument that we need to be careful about allowing men who transitioned to women playing in female leagues.
I’m just not sure getting beamed in the face with a volleyball is a good example, although you have points about bone density. But, for example, I’m not sure what limits to strength the trans athlete here has to play in the league… I am assuming that they’re not playing with the full strength of a man due to hormone therapy, etc (but I could be wrong).
Um, what?
How can you extend a physical biological advantage to chess? This is a sexist remark in today’s world, right?
Polger beat Kasparov, Fischer and Carlsen, all when they were #1.
The notion that women mentally aren’t as competent as men is in line with GSC’s weak man attempt at machismo. More men play chess. It’s a ridiculous statement.
The only games/sports that I would even consider women and men would be on an even playing field would be card games, board games, pool, and bowling. Why pool and bowling? It’s all about location, location, location. Ball placement is key.
You know, to be fair…from the conservative perspective…challenging what exactly gender is, what a woman is, what a man is, transgender specific rights and overt acceptance…you know, they might have taken gay marriage and just said fuck it.
But, when all the sudden children are in hormone therapy at 6, people telling you their pronouns at meeting, the entire concept of fluid genders…this is challenging the very core of their understand of the world. It’s a lot to take and when you challenge the core of someone’s belief in the most basic part of how life works and what we accept, it’s not out of the question they respond, in turn, with ignoring any sense of reality you or I might have on any other subject.
I mean, if I was a conservative, my response to everything could be “you can’t define a woman” so I don’t give a shit what you think is reality and what isn’t. That wouldn’t necessarily be an outlandish response.
It went from gay marriage, which I think is enormously reasonable…to quite an onslaught. I think a tranny drag lunch is pretty normal, actually. We had that shit in the early 90s, even. But, that shit is getting lumped in with hormone therapy for children, and your 10 yr old changing their name from Maggie to Marcus on a whim and shit. It’s reasonable for a parent to start freaking out, I think.
Both sides need to take their Twitter mobs and deport them
I agree, Warden. And the worst part is the instant vitriol if someone ignorantly says the wrong thing. That politics is based on making enemies, not friends.
Or they were there all along. I disagree with the “all of sudden” comment.
It would seem to me that knowledge, understanding, and liberation (perhaps coming out) has moved the needle forward. As our understanding of previous definitions changes, and perhaps some notion of compassion, people feel better expressing themselves.
Competitive Chess requires an amazing amount of energy. I’ve seen stories of these guys burning 5-6 thousand calories a day. Men have more muscle but also bigger fat deposits. We are fitter and more well designed for almost anything that requires competition on average.
Furthermore, men have a much higher ceiling for IQ. If you plotted a bell curve of all male and female IQ you’d see that women would dominate the average (not many too low and not many too high)…. Men would be all over but 2-3 times as many in the extreme high and low regions.
We are the risk takers of our species and if evolution is true - it’s allowed men to develop huge advantages over women in a lot of areas because we had to get better and better hunting, protecting, providing, and winning mates.
The scientific community is highly aware of this but it’s very taboo to talk about. God forbid the truth be out there and discussed.
Wow. Well, I’ll just say I’m not convinced and leave it at that.
Then why has there only been 1 woman in history to play and beat the best men in the world with any consistency?
Fide’s league is an open league. Women can play the men in any tournament. Most opt to play in the women only league. They know lol. But you’re not convinced.
The best 2 to 3 women in the world would be sub 200 players if they played with the men.
Men are a different animal. We’re more competitive, more apt to take risks and gambles and just designed in a superior way when it comes to competing.
We can even apply this to academics and business. Go look at the split of men v women in engineering or tech. The list goes on and on.
I’ll never understand this desire for society to make women something they are not. It’s demeaning.
