After four games have we seen what we are getting out of this player? Three touchdowns is something to laud but is he more than a short yardage pounder? Better than what, say, Fletcher could have done? Basically a fullback?
Maybe it’s just me but I thought it was weird when UM got him. UM already had a pretty stacked RB room. And the expectation coming into the season was that Martinez would get the bulk of the carries. To date it appears that Fletcher and Lyle are in when the team needs longer yardage. And there’s a good deal of talk about getting Chris Johnson more reps because of his speed. And then there’s Ajay Allen, not sure what his “role” is except the spell the others. Wheatley-Humphrey is an unknown. Same for Terrell Walden, plays special teams, right?
There’s been times so far this season I forget Martinez is on the team. Any sense that his role will expand deeper into the season? Think he regrets coming to UM? Does not look like he is getting the exposure to improve his draft standing. Thoughts?
He’s the hammer\weapon in your back pocket. Play in the ACC is just getting started and there’ll be games when the conditions will call for wearing down the DL of the opposing teams.
Thing is …he’s not Leroy Hoard ( . He’ll always get you the yards you need .
Martinez is a very good back. He is what Mario wants. A big back that wins first down. He is going to put you in plus situations. Martinez is going to get you those 3-4 yards everytime he touchees the ball. I watched him at Oregon State and if Martinez gets enough carries the defense will pay. He is more Najea Davenport/Melvin Bratton. Guy is a work horse and as the season gets into more critical games, Miami will use him more.
Since we are talking running backs. I’m a bit worried about our run game. We haven’t really been showing we can move the ball consistantly on the ground, against average to bad teams so far.
