Hayes was charged following investigation of an accident occurring in his hometown of Largo on May 10 of this year. He surrendered to the police today, and will face three charges of vehicular homicide and one count of reckless driving. See story below:
No surprise here. It’s unfortunate for this young man that his future, most likely, will be behind bars BUT it’s even more unfortunate for the families who have endured this senseless tragedy.
The young man had a shot at the NFL and blew it by driving way too fast. He killed three people and should go to prison.
No indication he was drunk or stoned, he was just being a jackass. No common sense, I guess. He was driving about 80 in a 40 zone. Unless the streets are deserted, that’s not going to end well.
Ridge St in Largo is a multi-lane main drag but it passes through residential areas with side streets and driveways that exit/enter directly from the street. Crazy to be driving 80 through there. 50 would be risky enough. .
The car he hit, a Kia Soul, was turning left into a residential street when he t-boned it with his SUV going in the opposite direction. The driver of the Soul didn’t realize he was closing so fast. A little Kia Soul is no match for an SUV like a Dodge Durango going 80. The Soul looked like to got hit by a train.
In 2011, a similar accident happened on a similar road (near my house in Tampa when I lived there) on Fowler Ave which is a main drag and connects 75 with 275. It runs right past USF. A young woman was returning home from her waitressing job around 2am and was broadsided by a car coming the other way. I know that road very well and cars coming off 75 heading west on Fowler fly through there until they start hitting lights. I never attempted to cross there without crossing where there is a light. Too dangerous otherwise. The posted speed, 50 mph, is far too high IMHO. Too many side streets and businesses, a prescription for disaster. It should be 40 or 35 given all the ins and outs around there.
A little hill makes visibility not so great where she turned (Raintree Blvd) and I have no doubt the young male who hit her was probably doing 65+ in a 45- 50 zone. He hit her car ( a VW Jetta) so hard the impact knocked the engine out of the car and sent it rolling down the street. That’s quite an impact. I don’t think he was charged because Temple Terrace police, although aggressive are somewhat inept. I don’t think they got a BAC on him because he went to the hospital in serious condition (his car burst into flames post impact) and the DA is a pussy who won’t bring cases to trial if there is less than a 100% chance of conviction. I doubt the skids marks were that long because he stopped so abruptly, like hitting a wall. At any rate, I don’t think he was ever charged although he probably should have been. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B_1uMHsx0t0
Most of us did stupid shyt as yutes. Most of us get away with it. Hayes wasn’t so fortunate.
