I believe you should start at 2:20
Then he’s a piece of shit. No other way to say it. Unacceptable in any format.
Yeah. I can’t even imagine thinking this is a cool thing to say in a song. It screams loser to me. When I was in high school, you couldn’t get lower than the older guys who cruised up and down the block for chicks.
We had a security guard who was an alumnus that ended up playing D1 Football at Iowa St in the 80’s…. He was kind of a local legend. Came back and did security at our high school in the late 90’s so now he’s in his 30’s at the time.
Well known for riding around on his golf cart and picking up the school girls and doing crazy shit with them.
Everyone knew, no one said a thing because the girls never complained.
Aweful
In every high school with which I am familiar, there are cases of indecent fraternization between teachers (both male and female) and students. The problem is that faculty in many cases haven’t the courage to take action against such behavior. The proverbial excrement hitting the fan blades usually occurs when parents get wind of what is happening.
Curious you’re relegating this to schools. I mean, the volumes of the times…Elvis moved in Priscilla at 14 and married her at 16. Jerry Lee married his 13 yr old cousin. Ted Nugent had parents give him custody of their children so he could nail under aged girls. Hell, Nuge released “Jailbait in 1981” :
“Well, I don’t care if you’re just 13 / You look too good to be true / I just know that you’re probably clean.”
Jimmy Page and Lori Maddux at 13, Steven Tyler and Julia Holcomb at 16, Bill Wyman and Mandy Smith at 13.
Hawaii and Georgia raised their from 14 in 1995 and 2001. In SC, it’s still 16. In MO, they tried to raise it to 18, but failed. It’s 17. In Alabama, it’s 16 right now. In Kentucky, it’s 16. Starting to notice a trend? Loertta Lynn’s Coalminer’s Daughter was about her marriage at 13.
In 2010, the US failed to pass the International Protecting Girls by Preventing Child Marriage Act and the US remains only one of 2 (Somalia being the other) not to ratify the UN Convention on Rights of the Child and one of 7 not to have ratified the 1979 Convention on Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women. Of course, who killed them? Take a guess.
It’s pretty wild when you look at the states…West Virginia, Florida, Texas, Nevada, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Cali, TN, NC and Kentucky all have the highest incidences of child marriage. 10 per 1000 in WV were child marriages. In Texas, 40,000 are married. In Florida, 17.000, some as young as 13.
I had no idea, just looked this stuff up. There is a Tik Tok channel that goes through old songs and lists these things…it’s shocking really. All of these songs, we’ve all heard and just never thought about the lyrics.
