Just like we said

Awesome news. If they are violent criminals or drug dealers- bye bye.

What’s the issue?

The issue is if they AREN’T violent criminals or drug dealers.

“But the memo lists a number of other qualifying crimes, adding that attorneys can prioritize denaturalization even for those who are facing “pending criminal charges” that have not yet secured a conviction.”

So I think the confusion here lies in the assumption that the DOJ simply denaturalizes someone by the stroke of a pen.

That’s not the case. They cannot unilaterally or arbitrarily do that.

They must litigate the matter in Federal Court. It’s a civil case with a Justice and the standard is “clear and convincing proof” or “preponderance of the evidence,” as opposed to “beyond a reasonable doubt.”

The way I read it is- Naturalization is a privilege, not a right. It can be revoked.

The real question becomes- should a naturalized citizen be afforded the same rights as birth right citizens. I don’t think so.

And I’m the son of 2 naturalized citizens. If they committed crimes- I’d be upset if they were denaturalized and deported- sure- but I don’t think I’d disagree with the right of the Federal Government to protect its interest and reserve this power to do so.

But what if they DIDN’T commit crimes but were accused of them, never criminally charged but denaturalized?

You’re saying naturalized citizens shouldn’t enjoy the right of being innocent until proven guilty.

The whole reason why I and others have been screaming about due process. This is why!

According to gsc the fact they are here is a crime and at that point couldn’t care less if they got due process. By that logic trumps wife who is an escort should have been thrown out of the country.

I’m saying Naturalization is a privilege that can be revoked.

That can be revoked without being proven guilty, yes.

I think we understand each other. And I’m not even saying it’s crazy talk. It can make sense for a naturalized citizen to sort of be probationary. Other countries besides the US can be MUCH more difficult to gain full citizenship in.
