Rank the hire. I think they need a bigger name, though he may be a fine coach. They can afford it too but maybe I’m just like many others who envision a bigger coaching pool than exists?

Yeah, I mean take some big swings. An NFL name who might actually want to recruit. Maybe they did and got no bites, who knows but it seems they could have gone bigger and didn’t. I’d at least have to ask Brian Kelly if he’d want to come to a football power with no limits on recruiting where he’ll get what he wants. Don’t know if he works in the SEC or not but he can coach, he’d recruit for them and they’d probably get straightened out in two years. And even if he says no, I’m still asking. Same with any other power 5 coaches who check the boxes. They do need a QB though and the roster is looking a bit sparse.

Napier has done very well in 4 years coaching at Louisiana playing against total joke Sun Belt West Division teams. That success may or may not translate to playing against SEC teams. Doesn’t seem like a terrible hire.

I would have said it was a real good hire but for the Lincoln Riley move. Superb play by USC.
Gotta admit, this appears to be a good hire on paper. 3 straight double digit win seasons at Louisiana with multiple bowl wins. look at the recent history of that program…it was a bottom dweller that never won at their current clip.

They definitely weren’t a bottom dweller…I mean an occasional bad year here and there. You are right this is their best streak of consecutive seasons, but not a bottom dweller.
Hire is okay imo…Has rep of good recruiter from Bama days… He plays so many close games with teams he should kill though. I’ve seen it so many times.
He was gonna go somewhere big though, and I don’t hate it…I just think this is someone you settle for, not target.

Most in-the-know Miami fans are fine with Napier at Florida cause the guy doesn’t recruit well.
If Miami gets a guy like Cristobal that recruits it’s game over.
Most seem to be pushing for Kiffin though. People seem to think he’s high on the job and would take if offered. I just want it to work out for us. Let’s get a competent AD and actually have the funds for a needle moving coach and fill this thing up!
