Immigration in Indiana

Just saw this story about a small town of about 18,000 in my state. People from 28 countries and 27 languages in this small town. Tyson loves the cheap labor but the town isn’t loving the ramifications.

Harris/Biden immigration policies have to be reversed.

Trump had the same exact Temporary Protected Status policy for Haitians.

In fact, the Haitian immigrant that story interviews came over… DURING TRUMP’S TERM.

You must not have read the article about when the numbers started skyrocketing. There were 14 Haitians in the schools in 2021 and over 200 in 2024. That’s not under Trump. Furthermore, it’s not just Haitians, it’s people from 28 different countries

Don’t try to equate the two administrations on the topic because it isn’t remotely the same. Assimilation of those folks is a big deal, even if you don’t see it in the great city of Los Angeles where you live. Small communities can’t deal with the huge influx of immigrants and the cultural change is massive. There are many Springfields out there and this is another example.

You reveal yourself to be nothing more than a simple bigot.

A person in Springfield, who was a master at sarcasm, stated the following (it applies to Logansport as well)
I can’t believe these haitians would come here and fills jobs that local Springfield residents would not or could not do. Now they’ve raised the average city wage and county wage. They’re paying into income tax into the city that the city desperately needs for services. They’re making some of the local losers look bad by their example. The Haitian immigrants are working overtime to buy up all of the dilapidated, condemned and boarded up homes and then fixing those houses up to make them livable again. This is raising property values across the city and county to the point where the valuation of all real estate in the city surpassed $1 billion dollars last year for the first time.
This, in turn, increases the property taxes paid to Clark County for those homes that are no longer boarded up nuisances. I can’t believe they’re helping to fund our government and beautify our city. These immigrants are now spending money in our community to the point where new restaurants and retail spaces keep opening up across the city. What madness. Now we have new businesses in town generating more tax revenue for our city and county.
because I have main character syndrome and the entire world should revolve around me, I want the exorbitant benefits some of these Haitians get, such as $292 for Snap, aka food stamps and $363 in cash per month for a single adult. Everyone knows that $655 per month can make you live like a billionaire. I don’t need it, but I want it before anyone else because why should we help folks who legally come to our country to work, but they have to wait for their work permits so they don’t starve.

Btw, the mayor has to request those people. They aren’t assigned by Kamala Harris. Your shitty state can’t fulfil the needed jobs. The Haitians appear to be bringing up the lifestyle there…the housing market is up 10% this year.

But, what WAS it like in Logansport?

Education D+
Unemployment c+
D- Crime
Crime occurs every 8 hours and 15 minutes
8th percentile for safety, 92% of cities are safer and 8% more dangerous
37.54 per 1000 residents

Your methed out, piece of shit state is better off with as many immigrants as possible. You need all the help you can get

Simple bigot

Not the most exciting place in the world but it’s a great place to live.

Funny, I didn’t see Logansport in the listing

I did. The policy is the same as during Trump’s term. The Tyson chicken company is doing the same thing as during Trump’s term.

What changed is the Haitian president being assassinated in 2021 and the country going through a wild crisis.

Go ahead and blame that on Harris if it makes you feel better, but the local government and companies want these workers, and they are helping keep these cities alive.

I know it’s Tyson chicken. The government needs to hold these companies to upholding the law. They will hire illegals and have been doing it forever.

These cities would survive without the immigration if we got people back to work and got rid of this awful welfare state we have. Too many people are choosing not to work. Why would they work when they can collect a check.

I blame Kamala and Joe for letting all the illegals in (as I’ve stated over and over). And whether you want to try to equate Trump and Kamala and Biden that’s on you. If it makes you feel better to have your head in the sand…

We aren’t talking about illegals in this case. But it’s true that Big Business is guilty of this, and the Pubs have a lot invested in doing it, not that the Dems have stopped it. The truth is Big Business rules above the Dems and Pubs.

So if you wave a magic wand the cities will be fine. Got it.

A lot of these populations are aging out and need the influx. The very article you cited showed how a Tyson worker became a small businessman and opened a market. This stuff is GOOD for the town.

Maybe not technically but I have a hard time believing everyone of them has valid asylum claims. Not talking about the Haitians specifically but there are 28 countries represented. In a lot of cases they just pretend they are legal or look the other way. It used to be that the towns would clear out when immigration came because they knew they were all illegal.

Per your point on the towns, there is good and bad. Yes they can bring some economic gains to the towns but they also overwhelm health care, sometimes bring unique viruses/sickness, overwhelm the schools, and create cultural assimilation issues.

It appears the problem here is the quantity and concentration. Larger cities could handle that amount of an influx with no problem. It doesn’t seem like it’s working well here unless the bottom line economic number for the corporations is all that matters.

That’s because you’re a scumbag bigot.

words of a simple bigot…same words date back forever by the same trash type of people

I’m not so sure. Your laundry list of problems could be summed up as “growing pains.”

Fact is, an influx of workers contributes economically to the town. That locality benefits the most from taxation, which can grow out healthcare, schooling etc to fit.

Yes, I understand your concept of “too fast,” but as long as Tyson is hiring there can be an argument that it’s sustainable. I can agree that there is a reasonable limit, but I’m not sure we’re past it.

Maybe. We’ll see how it plays out. The corporations don’t really care about the health of the town as long as they are making max profits though.

From what I’ve gathered from stories like this and Tyson in general is that Tyson and other chicken manufacturers commonly do this.

I’m curious - you obviously have a primary opposition to illegal immigration, but also legal immigration.
When did immigration become your primary motivator and why?

I’m for legal immigration within reason. I have a lady who works for me from India who went through the process of getting her green card and I know how long that took her and how hard it was.

She did it the right way and it was too long of a process and these others are breaking the law and it seems getting equal or better treatment in some cases.

I don’t care what country, ethnicity, religion etc of the people coming here legally are. We just need to vet them. That doesn’t mean automatically making the illegals legal.
