So, I’m having a debate…where do you place Ichiro in top MLB players of all time?
Also, if you’re making a top starting lineup of all time players, do you put Bill Russell at PF on Team 1 or Tim Duncan?

I think Ichiro is a top 50 player all time. Let’s not forget that his first seven seasons were played in Japan; imagine his numbers if he starts in MLB.
In my opinion Bill Russell would be a power forward in any other era and Timmy is the best of all powerful words
So, take a look at his states compared to say, Ty Cobb. He had over 200 hits for 10 consecutive years.
I think it might surprise you to compare his states with a few others. Hard to debate…but, he might be the greatest contact hitter in history. Not sure he isn’t top 10 all time
I’m not averse to admitting he’s one of the greatest hitters in baseball history but that would be a different question. You asked “players.” And there’s more to baseball than hitting stats. And you’ve narrowed it down to “contact hitters.”
All depends what you’re asking.
Legit point. I’m struggling on this one.
I’ve got
Ruth
Mays
Ted Williams
Cobb (maybe? Who knows. Great stats but Ichiro is comparable stat wise)
Aaron
Bonds
Gehrig
Walter Johnson
Bob Gibson (maybe playing favorites here)
Ichiro
Greatest I’ve seen play regularly in the modern era
Bonds
Ichiro
Randy Johnson
Roger Clemons
Ken Griffey Jr
Steve Carlton
Cal Ripken Jr
Rickey Henderson
Nolan
Greg Maddux
Pujols
Trout
Hard to argue with Ichiro’s numbers
I think he’s a clear top 40 player and he may make my top 30…I wouldn’t argue vehemently with top 25 and if I made a list or thought about it he may be pushing mine.
Great defensive outfielder as well…If his whole career was mlb you are looking at top 15 player.
Pure hitter wise I’d say Ichiro is up there at least top 10-15. Ted Williams will always be #1 for me.
Some of my favorites back when I religiously followed baseball:
Wade Boggs
Tony Gwynn
Kirby Puckett
Jose Canseco
Don Mattingly
Dwight Gooden
Darryl Strawberry
Greg Maddox
John Olerud
Will Clark
Playing baseball and softball I always wore #9 for Ted Williams and also for my favorite shortstop (not anywhere near the best) Gregg Jefferies of the Mets. I was a big Mets fan back in the day. This was back before Miami even had a baseball team.
BILL RUSSELL AT BEST IS DENNIS RODMAN……
NO WAY I TAKE EITHER DUNCAN OR RUSSELL OVER BARKLEY……
TIM DUNCAN HAD DAVID ROBINSON, GINOBLI, PARKER, LEONARD……
TIM DUNCAN WAS ON THE BENCH WHEN THE HEAT STOLE THAT FINALS GAME……
ALL THOSE HITTERS USUALLY FACED ONE PITCHER……
THAT 3RD AND 4TH AT BAT IS WAYYYYYYY EASIER……
THE PITCHERS ARE WAY MORE ADVANCED……
THERE IS ZERO COMPARISON IN ERAS….
At least you’re consistently ignorant.
Russell won 11 championships in 13 years.
The Worm
Good to know your sports knowledge is on par with your political knowledge, which is nill
Rodman 5 championships in 14 seasons
Russell 11 championships in 13 seasons
Rodman 2 all star games
Russell 12 all star games
Rodman Season MVP 0
Russell Season MVP 5
Rodman All NBA First Team 0
Russell All NBA First Team 3
Rodman All NBA Team 2
Russell All NBA Team 11
Rodman won defensive player of the year twice, Russell zero but it wasn’t created until 1982
Rodman Rebounds Leader 7
Russell Rebounds Leader 4
Barkley vs Duncan? A bit closer
As I recall, the Heat were shooting 3s and Duncan wasn’t quick enough to guard the outside and move back inside
Tony Gwynn is the best hitter I’ve ever seen. But that’s just me.
Best overall hitter?
Contact hitter?
Power hitter?
Lead off hitter?
Clutch hitter?
There’s so many directions to take this.
Overall. The man just didn’t strike out. I loved watching his at bats!
Forgot about Tony Gwynn
I’d have to go with Rickey Henderson for best lead off hitter of all time. In my opinion there isn’t anyone that even comes close that I can think of.
The power hitter category to me is so muddied. The steroid era did that for me. I’ll admit it was fun to watch and track the HR races during that time, but where do you draw the line in regards to history?
I also think Pete Rose should be in the Hall of Fame.
WHAT GARBAGE……
HOW MANY TEAMS WERE THERE 9?
HOW MANY TOP 50 ALL TIME GUYS ON HIS TEAMS?
RUSSELL IN TODAYS GAME IS DENNIS RODMAN AT BEST….
LOOK AT HIS FREE SHOOTING……
HE IS A DEFENSIVE REBOUNDING PLAYER……
WHAT CAN DUNCAN DO BARKLEY CAN’T?
ABSOLUTELY NOTHING……
BARKLEY CAN LEAD THE BREAK……
BARKLEY CAN SCORE ON THE PERIMETER……
BARKLEY CAN CREATE HIS OWN SHOT……
HE CAN SHOOT FREE THROWS……
TALENT ISN’T CLOSE……
Better defender than Barkley…One of the best defenders ever, ACTUALLY
