I wonder why Indy didn't post this story

Thus your disdain for the Catholic Church. When it keeps coming to the forefront like this I don’t blame your position. I just want you to remember this. Jesus was never guilty of this nor any other sin for that matter. These clergy members are guilty and no there is no defense. None whatsoever. That’s why I don’t put my faith in man. I solely reserve that for Christ and Christ alone.

All too common and shameful. CanesSC is right. All people involved should absolutely get what they deserve. Good post CanesSC. Evil people exist in all walks of life. The Catholic Church is one of the oldest standing institutions that’s still around. They aren’t immune.

Everyone will be the wiser to keep this thought in mind. Hold me accountable for my wrong doings. Hold them accountable for theirs.

Copy that. I respect it, though I don’t share it.
I tend to lean more towards Arianism / Utilitarianism and consider more of the apocryphal texts as valid as western cannon, if not more. Not as far as Gnosticism, but more on that spectrum than a Trinitarian.

This is more a philosphy as opposed to being religious. This is more about ethical outcomes and the value placed on the outcomes of decisions made. Basically, in my own words, this is more about what will produce the greater good.

You’re referencing John Stuart Mill and the Theory of Utilitarianism. I spelled it wrong, sorry - busy day Unitariansim. My bad. In the context of religion, its the out spring of what was originally Arianism from Arius at the First Council of Nicaea. He rejected the Trinity. Sorry about that.

I fucked up a shipment at the FAA in Houston this morning and was discombobulated when typing.

Ah! There are some folks that live across from me that attend a congregation of that nature.

Gnosticism if fun. You should look into it just for curiosity. It contends that the God of the Hebrew Bible is actually the enemy, the Demiurge. Early Christian history is my favorite topic for some reason. Before I lost everything in my 20s and wound up wandering the earth like David Carradine in Kung Fu, ending up in logistics of all things, I wanted to be a professor of History and specialize in Early Christian history. Ironic, I guess, not being a Christian anymore.

I have an interest in learning the history of ancient and current world religions myself.

That ancient Book of Enoch stuff is really cool. I love reading about it. I’ve tried to educate myself on Gnosticism many times but I never really got a feel for what it was or it’s place in history.

Elaine Pagels can help with that. I’m not promoting Gnosticism, but if you’re into that type of thing, she has exceptional books on the subject. Her Gnostic Gospels is probably the best of her works. She began to get a bit too infatuated over the years.

On a slightly other tract, the History of the Christian Church by Williston Walker is the best book I’ve ever read on the subject. Over the years, I’ve handed that book out like candy. I only wish he lived later so we could have a more robust history of some of his other books like History of Congregational Churches in the United States, but being so old, it does lend itself to being a bit before the monetary drive of publishing of the 20th century.
