I wish the whole basketball-centric Jefferson Pilot disaster of a conference would implode on itself.
Duke-best football win is over 7-5 Clemson. Also beat Wake, Cal, UNC, NCSU and Syracuse. Beat Elon out of conference. THEY ARE SEVEN AND FIVE!!!
Miami beat Pitt, FSU, NCSU, VT, Syracuse and Stanford. A bit better. The OOC games don’t give you a leg up or allow the ACC office to select highest ranked team available? Joke title game You’d think ABC would intervene to get the best match up.
So the wins over Notre Dame, UF and South Florida do us no good. Unreal!
The ACC was bad before but the divisionless scheme, now it is much worse.
There are about 1,057 teams in the ACC now and without conferences the schedule inequities run rampant. Duke is probably about the 5th? best team in the ACC. They lost to an uncooperative cupcake (UCONN) a few weeks back. And I don’t think UVA is the best team in the ACC, either. The ACCCG is kind of a joke.
Miami screwed the pooch when it lost to Lville and SMU. Beck threw 6 picks in those games (4 against L-ville). Not all his fault but he played very badly in both games as did the most of the team. Hard to win when your QB throws 4 picks.
Miami closed strong, it last lost on 11/1 to SMU in OT after playing uninspired, predictable, bad football. Winning against a ranked Pitt team in an away game was the best final game Miami has had in a long time. (SMU lost to Cal on Saturday night. Cal also beat Lville recently while losing to Stanford in between. Cal is not a good team edging a bad NC team and losing to VT in recent weeks.)
Miami hasn’t had back to back 10 wins seasons since Coker was the HC (with Butch’s players.) Hats off to Mario for turning things around in four years. Manny and Richt left him a weak roster, UM now has among the strongest rosters in the nation.
The committee announces the final 12 on Pearl Harbor Day which seems fitting.
Seriously, this conference deserves everything it gets if Duke holds onto this. Tulane and James Madison will get in and either Alabama will retain their at-large spot or Texas will grab it.
Hey, ACC….might want to revisit that selection criteria for determining your title games going forward.
