How are we looking overall for players, and our numbers on scholarship? Certainly not my wheelhouse, but I know we have been down bigtime for years now, and playing from behind. How are we looking moving into 2021, and the talent within those numbers calculated?
We were at 70ish players this year. We are keeping 6 of 8 seniors, losing some underclassmen(Phillips, Jordan, Perry)
Due to Covid everyone can play 2020 without counting it. Seniors can also return without using an IC towards the 85 cap. Thus we can play at 93 but two have left so 91 is the number for 2021.
70-8 seniors=62-3(departures)=59
85 cap-59=26 spaces(25 max per year)
21 HS kids, 3 transfers =24(Williams counted towards’21)
59+6+24=89
Now much like Williams, we can accept additional summer transfers and count them towards ‘22.
The ‘22 class should be top 5 simply because schools are not likely to get another year over 85. Most schools weren’t playing at 70 but 80-85. Thus, they have to get from 105 to 60 to sign full classes. Miami on the other hand will have 6 seniors, 8 walkons on ships, and should expect lots of 4th-5th year kids to depart to create room for 20-25 kids.
To throw another money wrench into this, the NCAA is looking at allowing one time transfers without sitting out or using an Initial Counter: Free Agency. If this happens, for every non-senior that leaves we can accept another kid. Sooo Manny could clean out the walkons and accept 7-8 kids this year leaving us with limited space for ‘22.
We really could use another DE and LB.
