Skeeter,
Yes, my bad, looked at an old article.

Sometimes it takes a year to feel the true extent of the loss.
Per Miami Herald, Zaquan Patterson and Joshua Horton to the portal. Have to guess Patterson and UM were not mixing well, never seemed to get close to advance billing.
Just saw that WR Andy Jean hit the portal. Was UM ever seriously recruiting him?
No safeties of note per 24/7.
Ny Carr and Elias Rudolph to the portal
Zaquon might be missed if we don’t fill that hole.
Horton now leaves us with needing at least 2 DT
Elias, we can handle that loss
Ny Carr…eh?
By the way I LOVE the way Tenn handled their QB situation. Good for them for not caving in to the drama queen
NIL will be the eventual death of college sports as we know it. Kids could end up getting so well paid in college that they lose the desire to go pro.
I don’t mind the kids getting paid ,thank the heavens, because everyone else was getting fat off of their efforts.
My two-cents would be that seventy-five percent of any monies (let’s say over one hundred thousand dollars) go into an escrow account. The account would not be accessible to neither…family ,friends nor “business associates”. If they get drafted the funds get moved to a 401K or something else . If they don’t get drafted it can all be withdrawn at the end of their college career (you can starve to death job-hunting ).
Seriously though , when you think of Chris Henry (WVU), Curtis Williams (UW) even our own Kellen Winslow you realize it’s basically Russian-roulette on turf.
This place is bad news every day. I shutter to come here any more.
It’s like looking at my portfolio at 4 pm each day.
Why do I even do it?
Any additions for us or is it all guys running for the life boats? Geez!
NIL has always existed to some degree, although illegally…Uncle Luke anyone? Rich oil tycoons anyone? Etc…
“Money is the root of all evil.”
I don’t agree with kids getting paid. They get paid with a FREE education. FREE! What they choose to do with it is their choice. Some will go on to have great pro careers, some will not. It’s ALWAYS the education to fall back on. Heck, when most guys retire around 30-32 they are still really YOUNG with alot more life AFTER football than before football.
I played college soccer. I didn’t get paid then.
I think there are some things that can be done for student athletes like some sort of stipend each month but millions of dollars? Nah…we can agree to disagree but look at the mess NIL and TWO portals have created.
When college coaches started making over ten million a year it is a tough sell that its about education. These kids are making these universities a ton of money. The adults in the room caused this problem a long time ago. They did not want to give them money. When you have colleges making billions off these kids and they cant even get money from boosters without getting penalized it created frankenstein.
There is no “free” in the education they get offered. Practice takes up the majority of their time and unless they are extremely high focused a great many of them struggle under an academic case-load. Yeah there are individual stand-outs with great grade-point averages but unless it’s a service academy you don’t get that across the board.
If you go to college on an academic scholarship you can get a summer job, start your own side business, have someone buy you lunch or dinner etc etc. Somehow any kid on athletic scholarship …has to forsake all of that. Use to be that other people could exploit their efforts and likeness for profit but woe to the kid who got a free burger from anyone.
Coaches hate NIL …not because it’s ruining college-sports…rather it is the fact that they’re no longer little tin gods who can treat players like personal property . They could kick a kid off the team or nudge him off the team …yet they got to decide his transfer destination. WTF?!
College-football/Basketball was already ruined when they praised horrible personalities like Bob Knight for being abusive. When they gave EA-Sports a ready-made product . When the coaches started living like robber-barons. When the NCAA turned a blind-eye to bad transgressions at some schools but wanted to become Torquemada when there was the smallest incident at others. (Rant over).
Josh Horton to Georgia. Don’t know why UGA keeps taking sloppy seconds. /sarc
And he will be a rotation guy there like he would have been here, makes no sense.
Reports are that we also just lost DB Karnley (just came four months ago) and also Kicker Murray.
This is what I hate about the portal. Karnley JUST got here a few months ago and now gets to leave. My opinion is that when you make the transfer from one team to another you have to play out that year before moving on.
Contracts are going to happen sooner rather than later. No way this can continue under this complete chaos. Contracts will all but end the portal.
It’s funny, I scroll through the 247 list of transfers in the portal and it seems like 80-90% of them are *** recruits out of high school. It must really suck to be a three star recruit. On the fence and easily can fall either way. Probably easy to conjure up reasons to move on… playing time, scheme, geographic location, coach is left handed, and so on. You suspect deeply this might your one (or second, hah) chance to (a) enjoy playing the game for the last time and/or (b) sniff consideration for the NFL. Have to assume that for the vast majority it is a lateral move at best, kindly put.
Yeah, I agree. NCAA created a monster when they allowed all of this nonsense.
Wail until the players unionize. That will be next.
IMHO, the NFL should have a farm system like MLB does. The fake students can turn pro.
The real students can play college football. It won’t happen but it should.
