I’m not a fan of calling Trump a fascist every other day, but this recent business turning blue states into police states is going too far. At best Trump is wasting a ton of money and resources on security theater. At worst he’s testing his domestic military power.
The governor of Illinois gave an incredible speech opposing these unpresidential moves. Every person worried about American democracy should read it.

As for this speech…It’s funny how dems use per capita rate concepts when it suits them isn’t it? Like when telling how us how white people in America commit just as many this type or that type of crimes….or more of this, etc etc….But of course are now telling us that Hattiesburg, MS with it’a 40,000 people needs intervention more than Chicago. No one believes this shit.
Also it also has to be noted…With regards to “red states” I checked he would be sending the troops to cities not the entire state? And that when he is talking about red states, it is worth noting that there is still blue leadership in what 80-90% of those cities? I don’t think that’s important really, I’m just going by this hack fudging numbers from a partisan point of view.
That being said I’ve never bought into the right’s finger pointing that crime is high in cities due to blue leadership…It is high because since the beginning of time when poor people live really close together, robberies and murders get committed, hell it happens in rural areas as well without the “close together” aspect. I am not under delusion that either side has a foolproof plan for stopping it. And the right misses me when they blame inter-city entirely on weak democratic cities… but at the same time imo the left’s approach to fixing this crime is mostly pure comedy.

A big city might have twice as much crime as a smaller town, but if that big city has 10 times the population, that means you’re 5 times LESS LIKELY to be the victim of said crimes compared to the small town. Per capita matters.
He’s actually NOT telling us that Hattiesburg needs an intervention. He’s saying the opposite. NEITHER city needs an intervention.
This proves his point even more. The point is that Trump is making life difficult for blue governors. He’s not going after blue cities in red states with red governors, because he doesn’t want to attack those governors.

Nah because it is skewed because by nice neighborhoods in the city where no one gets murdered EVER, and the stats are taken for the whole city. Some of the neighborhoods in SW DC (Using that because of recent events)are really really violent by any standards…In those hoods you are as or more likely to be a victim than the worst rural hoods.
305 is right about the Governor’s speech. It was well-crafted, adduced salient facts, and was quite compelling. The Governor is quite right about Chicago being a great town; I always enjoyed conventions I attended in Chicago and found it quite tranquil spending time along the lake front.
Nevertheless, Chicago still has an inordinate number of murders. I think six occurred this past weekend. Random gunfire occurs every weekend, and the body count is formidable, almost two murder each day.
Why would anyone object to a president offering help to curtail this endemic violence that has resulted in a declining population, a diminished tax base, and the fleeing of major industries such as Boeing.
Chicago is a victim of one-party Democrat governance which validates Lord Acton’s famous quote of absolute power corrupting absolutely. It’s high time that Chicago try some new methods to stamp out vicious gangs, remove illegal immigrant scumbags, and seize the weapons of neighborhood street thugs. A lot of Chicago residents would welcome help in restoring better order to their fair city. Look how things have changed in DC. Trump could help Chicago be great again. No doubt about it.
Maybe, but what does that matter when the point is that the majority of the city is safer? Everyone knows not to go to the wrong side of the tracks at night.

The problem is the president never once OFFERED. The White House never contacted the governor’s office, or the mayor’s. There is no offer of help on the table. Only social media buffoonery and threats of taking over.
Do you guys really want a president who governs through social media? Don’t you think the president or someone in his admin should call the governor if he wants to offer help?

Eh, people aren’t worried about the hoods because people don’t want to live in the hoods. When people think of living in a big city, somewhere in New York or Los Angeles, they just want to live in a normal neighborhood and be safe.
Chicago is among the most mismanaged cities in the country. Small wonder that people are fleeing Chicago in droves.
Though Gov. Pritzker gave a very good speech, Chicago and the entire State of Illinois are going down the tubes fiscally. And, of course, where do they look for bailout? Well, of course, they want a federal bailout. To be sure, that is their only remedy. Thankfully, we have bankruptcy laws that may play a large part in rescuing a state driven into the ground by having been run by Democrats since time immemorial. Bankruptcy laws are actually excellent statutes backed by more than five centuries of jurisprudence. To this end, I point to this article in one of my favorite journals, the redoubtable City Journal where my favorite contributor is the awesome Heather Mac Donald, a font of wisdom whom liberals should read in an effort to redeem themselves from their wokeful affliction.
