After fifteen years posting on Miami Hurricanes message boards, I’ve developed affection for many of you. Thanksgiving is a wonderful day to be grateful for being part of the greatest nation ever devised by mankind. We have the oldest Constitution on earth which enumerates individual rights that are endowed by a Creator and insulates us against governmental tyranny. In the history of religion, I think this phrase in our Constitution is the most profound achievement of religion. Judaeo-Christian values have stood well the test of time, and no where in the law is there any written separation of church and state. If there is a God which I doubt, I thank him for those values embraced by an extraordinary group of men known as our Founding Fathers.
There is no better nation for a diverse citizenry than ours. We have the better ideas… I know this because I have traveled widely and seen the failures of socialism and its false promises of equity. It crushes the liberty interests of individuals and constrains achievement.
Have a great day and be prideful that you live in the United States of America.
Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between Man & his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, & not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should “make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,” thus building a wall of separation between Church & State. Adhering to this expression of the supreme will of the nation in behalf of the rights of conscience, I shall see with sincere satisfaction the progress of those sentiments which tend to restore to man all his natural rights, convinced he has no natural right in opposition to his social duties."[1]
