Guidry DC

I know I’m not a huge contributor to the board but it’s good to be back.

On July 30 my ex-wife was killed in a head on car crash, died on the scene. We were married in 2001-2019. An unfortunate separation and divorce occurred but we remained close and worked on parenting our two boys who are 18 and 8. I’ve been thrust into full time dad duty and it’s been a hectic three months to say the least. Anyway, if you pray, please pray for my and our boys. I rented out my home to be back to what was OUR home and it’s surreal to be back sleeping in our bed, in our room and in our home that we all shared for the majority of our marriage. Thanks for the prayers.

I titled this as “guidry dc” just to ask your thoughts on him, if he should be replaced next year or if it’s just the lack of talent?

Sorry to hear that and good luck going forward, hopefully you have family and friends to lean on.

I am not an X’s and O’s specialist. It may be the case that that lack of a quality defensive backfield has altered his schemes. Then there’s the ongoing issue of poor tackling. How much of this rests on the DC versus position coaches? As the season wears on players who were impressive at the beginning seem to be losing their luster (Francisco Mauigoa, Tyler Baron, Simeon Barrow, I am sure everyone has their favorite disappointments as it were). Perhaps younger guys are not developing in-season and pushing for more playing time.

Conversely, it is the DC’s job to take the ingredients and make a tasty stew. Casually watching games UM does not seem to be fooling many OCs.

Damn that’s a really hard blow, HK. All you can do is stick close to family and look forward to better times ahead. Wish you and the boys the best.

Welcome back man…Sorry to hear all that.

Guidry is definitely losing his luster. We seemed to be out schemed in the flats and on things like end arounds constantly…This is a big couple games for him imo. I was a fan but am starting to second guess him.

Well said.

(Francisco Mauigoa, Tyler Baron, Simeon Barrow, I am sure everyone has their favorite disappointments as it were)

I don’t know I think Barrow’s been impressive the entire season…Mauigao has been disappointing after a strong junior season. Imo there’s a possibility he’s put on too much weight/bulked up too much.
Baron too me still plays hard and I do see him generating pressures, but he’s tailed off as well after looking so good against UF and then the weaker part of the schedule.

Again I’m not as down as Baron as some seem to be. It certainly doesn’t help that he’s constantly stunting himself out of plays.

Sorry for your loss.

My main question about Guidry is …does Miami really have the most talentless defense in the ACC? I mean we give up FOUR touchdowns per game to just about everyone. There are many “lesser” teams out there who give/gave up less points to the teams we’ve played. You can only blame the players for so long.

Absolutely!

It starts at the top. This seems worse that when D’Onofrio was here.

Thank you all for your condolences and prayers, we do appreciate it. I will be 54 on November 14. It will be the first birthday without her in my life since we met in the fall of 1999. 25 years is a long time! God is good though.

Our DB play hasn’t been good at all. Certainly miss Kichens and Williams, too.
Agree on Francisco.
Yeah, I am scratching my head on what’s happened to our DL. Florida isn’t horrible and we dominated that game. Not hearing a ton from Bain, either. We are supposed to have some studs at DE and a deep rotation but we don’t seem to be generating much pressure.

The Wake Forest game will tell us all alot about the mindset of our team going forward.

Sorry to hear, Hurricane. You seem to be handling it as well as you can. I’ll be praying for your comfort.

On the defense front, I don’t really know what to say. I have to agree with those that our talent should be good enough to not let every team outside of Ball State and FAMU to gash us.

Without Ward we easily have 3 more losses.
