Gotta ask the question

Are we really that good, or have we played some really terrible one dimensional QB’s? Because none of the QB’s we’ve played are good.

Also, yes I know our Oline is good…BUT, Florida had 3 starting Dtackles out and our passing game was beyond horrible. “Where were the screens?”

Miami is good

I agree. They are in the mix for top tier championship contender. But it’s too early in the season to see who has the energy, gumption and depth to get to the playoffs in a position to then run the table. As with the news of Mateer, so many teams are 1-2 injuries away from falling back from the aspirants to the throne.

After the next couple of games, to me, things will be clearer. If things go well a fan can legitimately get their hopes up. But that’s what being a fan means per se.

Feel pretty good about it but wanna see us on the road first.

I’m on the fence. I think we are good, yes. We squeaked by ND, looked good vs USF, but UF exposed us a bit with regards to our passing game. Beck wasn’t good until he had to be, late. FSU will be a tough test for us but I agree, the real test is when we hit the road.

Beck doesn’t look quite right. There might be some lingering effects from the injury. Lack of velocity on the throws?

FSU on the road will be a good test for Miami.

Beck looked lackluster versus Florida. Miami should have won by 40+.A bit alarming but he may have just had a bad game. If he plays badly against FSU, we should all be concerned.

The roster is very good, much better than when Mario took over.Easily a Top 20 team, maybe Top 10 or even Top 5. It’s hard to say exactly how good Miami is based on a very limited number of games.

I’ll be surprised if Miami wins the ACC but they might.

Miami has what we haven’t had in two decades: superior linemen on both sides of the ball. Our front four on defense will all play on Sunday. That last drive against Florida was a sign of complete dominance. I think Miami is at its best when it eschews being long ball happy. The hardest play on offense to execute is the long ball. While it is nothing short of marvelous when it is successful, it is more likely to be unsuccessful, killing a drive in the process. Beck conducted that long drive adroitly, completing a few short passes to sustain it, and it really put the quietus on the Florida game.

Few teams match Miami in run blocking. If Alabama, for instance had Miami’s offensive line, they’d be ruling the SEC. Nothing takes the stuffing out of an opponent more than being manhandled on long, sustained drives, of which Miami is eminently qualified in doing. Surely, we do have great receivers, but it’s a helluva lot easier passing downfield when you’ve got a lead and you’re dominating the line of scrimmage.

After years of Miami going into what I call “swoon periods” in certain games, I feel apprehensive that it will happen again to us, as it has happened so many times in the last two decades. Lately, the adage that defense travels well is often being said by pundits, and I think the adage has some validity. However, nobody is saying the same thing about offense. Ergo, if our offense travels well, and we start smashing mouths as we did in the 4th quarter against Florida, we win, but damned if in my mind it’s a sure thing. I think I feel like poor Mel Brooks did in the movie “High Anxiety.”

The reason i liked the mario hire is he knew you had to build inside out. He also put a premium on hs recruiting and using the portal as icing and not the cake. It took longer but look at the results. Jim Harabaugh used this approach at Michigan. Miami fans are like the battered wife…they think that every other man they meet will beat them. People like Donna Shalala had more of an impact on miami. Bad hires…it took bama years after gene stallings to get it right. Miami is for real. Just enjoy the ride and stop waiting for the thing to fail.

after butch left - they hire coker - terrible hire. They follow up with golden who did not relate to miami. He would have been better at uva, penn state. They follow that up with mark richt who was on the downside of his career. Panic and hire Manny who was not ready for the miami job. Miami failed miami. Mario was the first person since butch and jimmy who understood miami. He embraces miami….its a simple as hiring the right guy.

Elite forgot to mention Shalalalala’s worst hire, Randy Shannon. Good DC, horrible HC. Everyone wanted him to succeed but he wasn’t up to the job. Same with Coker.

Richt was done after UGA, he should have retired from coaching. Golden could have succeeded at Miami if he hadn’t insisted on his incompetent brother-in-law being the DC. Nepotism arguably sank both Golden and Richt. In Richt’s case, his insistence that his unqualified son be the QB Coach instead of hiring a really good OC.

Blake James wasn’t such a great AD, a good fun raiser, not so great at picking coaches.

The roster is night and day from what Mario inherited from Richt/Diaz. Mario is a great recruiter and four years in, we are seeing the results.

It would be great if Miami could develop their own QB’s instead of resorting to a NIL bidding war every year for a one and done QB.

Golden was doomed from the start. He got to Miami and he was hit with the Nevin Shapiro mess. I still say to this day if Miami had self emposed day 1 and took the punishment right away he may have made it. Miami waiting on their punishment was worse then the actual punishment. So many schools negative recruited against Miami and said they were getting the death penalty. By the time Golden finally started to recruit well it was to late. Like you said he should have fired his DC as well.

IMO, Beck has looked pedestrian the last 2 games. Ever since Tebow crowned him, he’s regressed.

I still don’t think he has the full zip on his throws. He was short arming some throws.

Maybe the extra week of recovery helps Beck return to form. And please no more falling on his shoulder.

Beck playing well so far tonight.

Well, like I was saying…Jeebus, we are the same fuking team as the past 20+ years, but with more talent and terrible Gameday coaching. An average ass team where a fan base complains about refs, when we already know the refs suck.

Chomp on this for a minute. Dillingham has the best WR in the country out and a super talented QB out as well. ASU goes in and still beats Iowa State…we are healthy and look like shit again. ASU hasn’t been healthy all season, and we over here losing to average teams.

And a LOT of cash blown..
