Get Out is his masterpiece. Nope I thought was good for the first half and terrible the rest of the way. US was a fun movie, but the plot holes you could drive a planet through.
I’ve heard When Evil Lurks is the natural heir to The Exorcist, supposed to be fantastic. The newer Evil Dead is fantastic. Super fun and better than the originals I think
Just the other day, I watched a remake of “The Thing.” I rather enjoyed it and couldn’t help laughing at unintended comedic parts. The original story was a Sci Fi classic novela by the great John W. Campbell written in 1938. That makes it five years older than bikki228. It’s a great read.
I love classic Sci Fi, especially the short stories that appeared in pulp fiction mags. Today, I just re-read one of my old favorites, one of the most creative stories ever written in its portrayal of an alien society. If you get a chance, read The Moon Moth (1961) by Jack Vance. One of the Top Ten novellas ever written.
Another SF/fantasy writer of note was Robert E. Howard, a really strange dude who invented Conan and Solomon Kane. Howard published expansively in Weird Tales, and for certain he was the apotheosis of weirdness. He lived a very strange life. Nevertheless, Howard still has a huge following worldwide.
I watched Hereditary a few weeks ago. Man that’s a creepy movie. Really good on the subtle scare and not gotcha jump scares. I had to rewind when the lady was climbing across the ceiling. I was like wtf did I just see?!
Midsommar was made by the same guy as Hereditary, but it’s not as novel a concept. It’s sort of like a modern Wicker Man but a little boring and a little obvious. Still happy I watched it though.
