The FBI informant thing has been public knowledge since a week or two after the arrests.

Note how the text NEVER says the FBI informant created the plan. The group discussed the kidnapping, and the informant encouraged it and then funded it.

I agree this type of thing is problematic, but it is standard operating procedure. How do you think drug dealers are arrested? By setting up a buy through an informant.
