So Tennessee fired Pruitt “for cause”…meaning they’re not going to pay the rest of his contract or a separation fee. This reminded me that Florida did this a couple years ago to McElwain. Now in both cases it seems pretty clear that the universities stupidly entered into a contract without considering the ramifications and were looking for a way to “weasel out” without upholding their end of the deal. Recall that in McElwain it was that he said he’d received death threats when he hadn’t; in Pruitt’s case recruiting violations are alleged that he is not implicated in.
Question: whatever happened ultimately with McElwain and what do you think happens with Pruitt? I can’t imagine this is a smart tack from the universities but maybe it ends up working?
