It might be the first time they were ranked all season?
Wins over 3 Top 15 teams, UNC, Duke and Auburn.
So how does a team that made it to the Final 8, lost to the eventual champion and thrashed the other finalist in the regular season fall back to 16th place?
A decent draw. SC (coin flip game), struggling Auburn team, an 11 seed ISU who we’re favored over. This got us to the “elite” 8.
The Carolina win was ages ago. You can keep clinging to it all you like. But Miami ain’t beating that team right now. Surely not by 29 or whatever it was then.
Not a blue blood program so we’ll be easy to forget. It’s a team with 10 losses on the year to begin with so not getting a high rank at the end is understandable. We weren’t ranked as year’s end pre-tourney anyway.
That’s why they’re 16th. They didn’t “fall back” to it. They “rose up” to it from being unranked. UNC was about 28-32 in the two polls after the ACC tourney. They won five games in the NCAAs and lead by 15 at half in the title game. That’s why they’re second now. A regular season loss to UM is pretty irrelevant right about now, quite frankly. Pretty easy to understand honestly.
