Fall Camp

Has anyone seen or know of the fall camp schedule? Gotta be close, as is the season.

Looks like Tuesday August 4th. Twenty-five maximum practices allowed by the NCAA prior to the first game.

As discussed elsewhere, with camp starting Hayden Lowe has left the team. No idea why, not my business. Seemed to have talent.

Jontavius Wyman also out. At first glance seems to be a depth piece but one never knows who will develop or not. He is sitting out the season so unsure if that means transfer next portal (saving a year of eligibility) or come back to UM. “After a lot of thought, prayer and conversations with the people closest to me, I’ve decided to sit out from football this year,” Wyman wrote.

Luka Gilbert to miss the season with unspecified injury (when are they ever specified?). Bad news as from what people say TE is one of the weaker positions on the team. Maybe someone else catches fire. Maybe another reason to ignore the TE in the offensive game plan.

I think Hayden Lowe is a loss for us. I’m not sold, totally, on Lightfoot. DT seems to be ok this year but I’m anxious to see how we do on the DE end. Perhaps our improved secondary can buy us a bit more time without Bain and Mesidor this year.

Anyone have any thoughts on our DE depth, talent?

This time of year especially my being a kid back in the early 80s hanging on every word that was printed in the Herald or Sun-Sentinel. These days I look at what they write and think, that’s so hokey. Everybody and their grandma knows all that about the team. And they all have no hesitance to voice their opinions to the heavens.

It was quieter then and maybe it was an air of mystery. But it was easier to look forward to a new season. Now you know the shoe size of the #4 wide receiver and the name of the walk-on QB’s high school girlfriend. Info overload.

Looks like there’s going to be more opportunity for carries…

Saw the news…it will be interesting to see how Mario handles this.

Anybody a little concerned about the drop off on Dline and Oline?

I love the talent we have but I think folks underestimate how dominant Bain and Mesidor were and how much they drove the entire defense.

Of course but am hoping coaching helps bring the talent up to speed. But yes, both lines were so good last year it’s a concern. We seem to be in a better position than in years past as far as ability to “replace” talent. Time will tell as always

I’m more concerned about the DE position than I am about the OL.

Let’s not forget that our secondary were pretty young last year so my hope is that as they have gotten better then can lock down to give our DE’s the time to generate a rush. Last year I think our rush helped our secondary.

LB is a concern of mine…

If the secondary is as good as advertised there should be situations for blitzes which help take pressure off the DE position. And how the defensive ends will perform is yet to be seen.

Goes back to development. And the fun of being pleasantly surprised.

One thing that we do have going for us is that we have really good positional coaches at DE, DL and OL…Lightfoot needs to have a year!
