I imagine many here assume Diaz will be fired at the end of the season.
I don’t believe he will. The main reason being, he will get a pass since his starting QB was injured very early on and he had to hand the keys to a freshman QB. Pretty much all bets for having a good season were off at that point. With King, Miami likely beats UVA and NC. He certainly is better than TVD.
Plus, the economics are on Diaz’s side. His buyout is significant if he is fired this season or next.
I’m also assuming Miami will beat Duke and probably GT as both are very weak. If Diaz somehow loses to Duke, my opinion changes. In that case, he may well be fired at the end of this season.
Would be good for the program if Diaz can turn it around. I’m not optimistic that he will but I hope he does.
Unless some major boosters with significant pull with Frenk and James demand Diaz be fired, I think he survives until 2023. If the team sucks again next season, I think he is toast. If it comes to that, I hope the boosters insist James go to.
We’ll see.
Thank God, I didn’t watch any of the game. I checked the score around half time and was surprised the team battled back in the second half. I predicted 45-17, got the 45 part right and was pleasantly surprised Miami was able to put up some points.
Anyway, this season is already over. I doubt Miami will win 5 games. The only upside is some of the younger players will see the field which should pay dividends next season. TVD is very green so the game experience should help him unless he just plain sucks and is a pick machine in which case he can’t be salvaged regardless. I hope that kid from GA sticks with Miami, he seems pretty impressive but hard to say how he will do in college.
I thought I read his buyout is about $8 million. If a major university can’t afford that, we may have tapped into what our problem REALLY is, eh? A&M won’t be buying out Jimbo but with that buyout it’s understandable. With Diaz, you get the $8 mil and get on with it. What changes next year? Better tackling, play calling, preparation? See Clay Helton. Let’s not waste more time than necessary. It’s just gonna be a lot more of the same next year.
Is there a way we can block insufferable blowhards with reading comprehension problems from seeing and/or replying to our posts? If not, a major failing of the board software.
God, I hope you mean her and not me. LOL! Because I’ve been thinking the same thing for weeks now. A banning? An ignore feature? Anything? Or do we just put up with it day after day?
For some schools, $8M is no biggie. Not so much for a smallish, private school like Miami. I’m not as death on Diaz as some of you are. I think he gets another year and if he fails next year, he is probably gone.
The roster has issues that must be addressed whether Diaz or someone else is the HC. The defense is on all Diaz though as he has been the DC or HC at Miami since 2016.
It looks like muting/ignoring is the best one can do on this board. Twitter has a much better block feature that blocks stupid trolls from even seeing your posts let alone replying to them.
Yes…I agree with all of that. So if we do have an issue with an $8 mil buyout, then maybe we’re all just fooling ourselves thinking it will ever get better? I know I’m tired of missed tackles though. And when you see it again and again it WILL fall on the HC at some point. We can do chicken and the egg forever…is it the players or coaches responsibility? Well, it’s both. And when it doesn’t get fixed, the HC WILL pay the price ultimately. But it’s funny with the Miami football coaches down here at both levels: Flores, Gase, Philbin, Sparano, Diaz, Richt, Golden, Shannon…pick any of them - all stubborn as hell when it comes to fixing problems right? Maybe I’ve just looked at it all wrong. Maybe it’s just not too fun to do these jobs and they all figure they’re better off with a severance package than trying to fix the unfixable? Think about it. I know I’m starting to.
One would think suicide sprinting to death those who don’t wrap up when tackling would solve the problem.
I can’t imagine Diaz hasn’t already tried that. If he hasn’t then yes, he is totally at fault.
Miami has some cultural stuff they always have to combat with many FL recruits, poor sportsmanship for one and going for the big upper body hit instead of just taking the runners legs out is another. Been going on for decades.
Fair enough but DAMN, it seems like just a technique issue on going in and wrapping up. How many ways are there to teach open field tackling? You go for the mid-section. The belt buckle and don’t go for fakes, don’t go for the big hit which isn’t really a sound idea to begin with. That’s the way I was shown it. I might be slow but if I’m there, he’s going down and not around. We seem to lack technique and strength in this department. Two BIG problems to have when it comes to tackling.
I agree with that. James hired Richt and Diaz. He is about to go 0 for 2, sadly. Another great Shalalala hire.
I don’t think he hired Coach L but he did give him an extension for some unknown reason. The jury is still out on the baseball team
Even though he is a woke democrat, I’d still like to see Manny succeed but it isn’t looking so promising at this juncture.
Edit: Shawn Eichorst hired Coach L in 2011. Ironically, one of the main reasons was that at age 61, he was unlikely to leave for another job … which Eichorst did in 2012 when he took the Nebraska job … since fired in 2017 mostly for hiring Mike Riley in 2015.
I agree that Manny has a few outs this year and may squeak by. that said, 3-9 or something will cause a groundswell of backlash at not just him but the AD. We’ve all said this but simply firing Manny is not the fix. If pressure is put on Frenk to upgrade Blake then big changes may start the happen.
But it’s out of our hands. Either the BoT exerts the pressure or they don’t, and it will only matter if there are realistic candidates to take their place. I’ve long worried that no one who is legitimate wants to land in Miami. Seems like career suicide at this point.
Probably had the most success? He definitely did, lol. And I think he would have been okay had he cut off his blood and hired a legit OC but it is what it is.
Really frustrating with Richt and Golden that they could have been solid coaches if they had just fired/hired the right OC and DC respectively.
Fuck I’m still pissed at Golden because if he had taken the hint and jettisoned his D, we’d all be much happier.
Richt was on the precipice of catastrophe though. Really needed to hire an OC. Also really needed to get away from the Manny tree on D. 3 more years of Richt and we may be in the same position as now. If there is one thing you can see a pattern with Manny, it’s that whatever he’s in charge of falls apart by year 3.
