DeSantis continues shitting on irrational progressive covid fear

Lol…Said nah, fuck you little snowflake lib mayors

Man has owned covid from day 1

“If you listen to some of the stuff that’s being percolated around the CDC, there’s a movement to try to impose more restrictions on the American people,” said DeSantis, speaking at an unrelated press event, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

“And I just want to say in Florida, there will be no lockdowns. There will be no school closures. There will be no restrictions or mandates in the state of Florida.”

Pure Beauty…So refreshing.

“The federal government has no right to tell parents that in order for their kids to attend school in person, they must be forced to wear a mask all day, every day"

Do preach my friend.

Texas is right there with him. Two states that are taking matters into their own hands while our administration plays games. Abbott says no more busing of migrants that have COVID to cities all over the country.

It’s fun to see two state governors trying to one up each other in terms of promoting freedom and law and order.

Skeeter,
Not specifically to this situation, but do you think the Feds ever have the right to mandate masks, gloves, etc?

If not, do you think seatbelt laws are overreaching?

Not Skeeter but I’ll play along.

The federal government has the power to mandate whatever it wants within federal jurisdiction (federal buildings, federal land, etc.). Outside of federal jurisdiction the federal government has no right and the states determine what is in its best interest. 50 sovereign states with unique circumstances which necessitates a unique circumstance of governance. If California wants to carry on with a 12 month lockdown; go for it. If Florida wants to go ahead without restrictions; go for it. I’d prefer the latter approach as it provides the individual freedom of choice. If I want to go around licking door knobs; cool. If I want to triple mask while sitting in my house; cool. Anything in between; cool.

Seat belt laws have become so normalized that I’m afraid a rational conversation can’t really be had. But, I will say this: do as you please. If you find seat belts cumbersome or annoying, then don’t wear it. You have the right to make that decision.

By the way, why isn’t it against the law for every kid in a school bus to wear a seat belt?

My final point is all of this boils down to one basic adage: no one can guarantee your safety but yourself. Live your life as you please and handle risk as you see fit. Just understand that dangerous liberty is always more preferable to peaceful tyranny (Madison used slavery but I question if some on this board can understand the use of the word outside of the context of the antebellum period).

Silent,

I appreciate your thoughtful response.
