I dare you to find me one list of NFL safeties…Just one. Or one grading system…That lists Damar Hamlin on a list of the league’s top 30 safeties. Just one storm. That’s all I’m asking.
I actually just looked at pff’s season long safety grades for safeties who played 50% or more of their team’s stats
Now PFF grade isn’t the be all, end all…But is widely accepted and used quite a bit but teams, media, etc…
I’m open to other grading systems though…So go ahead and find one.
But yeah…For safeties who played 50% or more of stats in the 2022 season (and he only did this because he was forced into action due to injuries)…He was ranked 51st out of 69.

I’m not even being harsh…I think Hamlin can definitely play in the NFL and has time to develop if he is indeed healthy
But his performance in Buffalo has not been anything that would solidify a job or mean that he’s untouchable. My guy that’s got Bills ties…said this (or something to this effect) when Hamlin went to the hospital last year “Seen him around, never talked but seemed like nice/polite kid…He’s been decent at times, but he obviously isn’t Micah Hyde, definite drop-off”
There would be some teams he may be safe on, clear top 3…Or even a starter…But remember we are talking Buffalo who have ABSOLUTE studs starting. Maybe the best tandem in the league. And they obviously didn’t believe his performance was enough to cement him as #3, he is at least competing, and it sounds like he’s more #4, although I’m not sure if they will separate he and Rapp based on Free(Hamlin) or Strong (Rap) …You may think it was…And of course it helps your narrative. I’ve seen the kid play since he was at Central Catholic or at least followed his career. Good player and hope he has a long career, and I woulda said that even before his collapse. Just to give you an example people I know always said that Paris Ford (alomost flipped to UM and starred at safety with Hamlin at Pitt, they were a very good duo) was a thug, a complete asshole…And Hamlin was just an all around great kid.

He has talked to many of the Bills players, although that number has gotten smaller the last 2-3 seasons as his role has changed. But he is still around facilities on occasion and knows people within the organization. So during the Hamlin episode I asked if he knows him…The exact words and his description he said aren’t important, I’m just relaying how we have discussed him.
