Now he has to land portal kids which isn’t good as we already have some upper class men and need balance. Hope we can find some NSD kids for CB and two portal kids.
Corners:
Ivey- 3rd year Junior (3 to play 2)
Blades- 3rd year Junior (3 to play 2)
Couch- 2nd year Sophomore (4 to play 3)
Clarke- 1st year Freshman (5 to play 4)
Dunson- 1st year Freshman (5 to play 4)
Ignoring Covid, we have 3 upper classmen for 2021 in Ivey, Blades, Couch. We have 3 underclassmen in Clarke, Dunson, and Curtis (assuming he plays CB).
I would fire Rumph, move X to CB, take Barber, take T2, take any CB with a pulse. We should assume that the NCAA will grant one time transfers to happen without an IC used.
I could also see Manny not sign another kid and hit the portal for all his needs. Thus, we take as many kids as possible that can help now and potentially have more than 1 year to play. Needs will be determined by departures along with current holes: CB, LB, WR. I’d expect DE to get added. Welcome to the start of college free agency. Miami is the leader of it at this point.
I know the initial counter question is still open, but at least they announced yesterday that all transfers will be able to play immediately and not have to sit out so we don’t need to limit our search to grad transfers or hope for an exception.
Agreed - I should have said that playing immediately was only for this year.
I also agree that the counters are a problem, but it does mean that with the few counters we have (assuming they don’t make a change for this year which I think they will), we have more options for who we could get to help us in 2021 as opposed to getting say a Junior who has to wait until 2022 to play for us (or be granted an exception in a normal year).
I rather like Couch. I’ve watched him during games doing a lot of things I liked.
Lots of players on the portal which has been oh so good for the Canes. It will be interesting to see whether Manny can pull another plumb out of the pie.
The Hurricanes really need another GREAT linebacker. Watching the UNC game was painful. No one jersey number at LB stood out. When you have great one, you see his number over and over again.
I don’t think you need to move X to corner. Why? Because Rumph can’t recruit? Blades you are counting? How do you know he can even play again? That’s 4. two upper class kids. Two sophomores. Miami needs two corners and maybe ( he’s a safety but athletic ) Tea Williams can play some nickel. It’s a major issue! It’s a major problem that needs to be solved asap
