Almost blew it at the end, went from 21-7 to 24-24 late in the game.
That blown coverage play was pretty bad. How does that even happen???
Hats off to Davis for drilling a 47 yarder under pressure that would have been good from 60, maybe 65. He seems like he will be a good kicker, We were spoiled by five years of the Borregali.
And hats off to the DL for overwhelming Carr in that last series. I think Miami only rushed 4?
I saw the game as a toss up but felt Miami would probably lose so I’m pretty happy they eked out the win. Big win in front of a lot of prized recruits, not all bad.
So, hopefully the problem areas (DB?) get fixed. Also felt the play calling was too conservative, very dinky but it got the job done. I would have liked to see more play action, more downfield shots, etc, But, at least they won so I won’t complain.
Next up BC, USF and UF at home then a bye week before FSU away. The schedule isn’t ranked that tough, around 35th, but seems tougher than that to me.
Beck played well, missed a few throws but it’s the first game so no biggie but overall looked really good. Keeping him healthy will be KEY.
OL looked great also. Very pleased with their poise and performance.
Where are the TE at??
WR looks better than we thought. We got guys who can catch the ball. Toney is a beast!
DL was a bit underwhelming as far as pash rush until the end. I really thought we had some more stud DE guys around? Interior DL did well but got gashed late.
DB group over all looked good but again that first TD should never have happened and some blown coverages late didn’t help.
K/P both looked good.
Overall, we really looked prepared to play this game. Cardiac Canes once again but these next two games should also tell us alot about where we are…should both be W’s!!
Especially when you consider Trader missed a big chunk of camp and only got 9 snaps.

I think you are really nitpicking here. DL really didn’t get gashed much at all although the QB draw (tough play for DL to defend) hurt. Remember they were going against, like us, one of the top 5 OL in the nation and maybe the best RB in the nation. When they weren’t throwing WR screens or throws in the flat (which most of their throws were), we got pressure all night on regular dropbacks
Lightfoot played 11 snaps, Bryant played 10, and Blount played 26 both inside and out so we were rotating.
His awareness of the field is what got me. It’s not that every single pass was perfect, but all of his decisions were good ones. He knew where his targets were and what options he had.
He did have a couple passes that were a little sloppy/forced, that could have been picks, but overall a very clean game.
Agree with this. It’s always nice to see more sacks, but overall we did a good job stopping their run from being a huge threat. Being up against that O, it’s hard to complain.
Gave it in the other thread, not much has changed since preseason, was a little worried on Poyser coming in, and a little more worried now. Thomas is what he is at that point of his career. The corners are very good, not ready to give them “great” just yet, but good and big depth there…Brantley never saw the field last night, so that speaks to our depth. I worry a little about nickle back if Scott gets hurt, he was our best back 7 player last night, absolutely terrific…But on the depth chart at nickle only Isaiah Taylor is behind him, I have a hard time believing Brantley or Day wouldn’t make a better nickle.
