Coaches Hot Seat

Agreed

I’ll admit I know zilch about the guy UF hired. I may have never watched a Tulane game in my life, at least not that I remember. Of course, hopefully he stinks.

This time of year seeing more and more names go up in flames. And just as much seeing retreads get patched up and back on the car.

Pat Fitzgerald to Michigan State? Given football and basketball it looks like Michigan State’s sports program is dead or on life support. I assume lack of NIL funding and/or university financial commitment. In my youth they were pretty respectable.

Mark Stoops about to get punted. He’s young enough and has a rep to get at least a top end coordinator job if not another HC job at another perennial rebuild school (UConn, someone like that).

Should Dawson leave – amazing me is that well respected to be hired away but what do I know – people hereabouts have mentioned Mike Gundy. Sports Illustrated said about him, “Gundy is hardheaded, combative and convinced that he’s right about pretty much everything. Those are tolerable—even admirable—traits when winning football games.” Doesn’t sound enticing and at this juncture coordinator seems his destiny. Position coach in the NFL?

Brent Pry? Sam Pittman back to an OL coach at a top program? Napier? Hugh Freeze? Justin Wilcox?

Then a few golden oldies. Brian Kelly. Jay Norvell.

Of course, more names to come. Miami fans always seem to want a more go-go offense to take advantage of all the skill players Florida produces. Cristobal wants the opposite and seems stubborn as a mule.

I guess my sentiment is that if Dawson leaves (doubt he will get canned) I’d like UM to get a younger, up and comer. Someone who can relate to today’s players. Understands there is a position on the team called the tight end. Isn’t predictable (A or B gap). I have to admit that Dawson has done better of late. But does he have more upside than what we see today? If not, is that good enough?
