He did more in one segment for the Athletic Department than the Administration has done in 20 years.

I don’t think the Herbstreit comments were the prime mover.
The 2-4 start, losing to UVA, getting blown out by Bama and MSU, edging App State by a mere 2 points, those were the prime movers IMHO. Manny was always a risky hire, first season was a disaster but much of the blame could be placed on Richt’s regime. Second year decent, but not great. Third year, another disaster especially early on. The FSU loss was the final straw. The billionaire boosters (Mas brothers and Ruiz in particular?) had seen enough and demanded a change. That finally lit a fire under Frenk’s ass. As well, Frenk may have finally realized how much dinero a good football team is worth to the U in terms of incremental revenue.
Whatever. I am amazed at the recent change of fortune. Let’s hope it all translates into winning seasons going forward. This is the most anti-Shalalalala trend imaginable.
Manny losing started the ball rolling. Herbie opened Frenk’s eyes to how bad it was. Mas+Ruiz pushed back against Epstein on the BOT to force change. Frenk didn’t realize how much dinero a good team is worth, he realized Mas+Ruiz were willing to spend upwards of 25M/yr to make shit happen which is not what Epstein was willing to spend.

It is sad that something said on ESPN has to get the ball rolling. Frenk must really insulate himself.
FSU loss sealed the deal. If Manny wins that and wins out he’s safe. He fucked himself.

I won’t argue with you on this. To be fair, he shouldn’t have been hired in the first place. He would have been perfect at Temple. He could have learned how to be a head coach there. At least he ran a clean program.

Herbstreit just said what every Miami fan has been thinking for years. It was a very public and embarrassing announcement, though, that may have put more fire under the boosters, or more likely gave them additional support. Who’s to say?
Either way, these are football moves I haven’t seen in 20 years. Even in the 80s I don’t think we did it with money. We were the plucky team who never backed down. To see us now actually joining the fight with the big dogs is mind blowing.
