Anyone think this is why Mario didn’t go after any other qbs in portal. He may have known this was going to happen. Was it even 24 hours from entry to portal to Miami commit?
I’m with you. This was probably in the works for a while.
To win in college you need a qb. Beck completed 72 percent of his passes in 2023. He also had 24 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. His 3900 yards was only behind Bo Nix and Penix. This year Georgia OL was nowhere near as good. They did not have a number one or number two wr. They did not have a very good run game. He know goes to miami who has two very good running backs. They have one of the best OL and Beck will be going against ACC defenses. He is going to see way less talented guys. This is a home run get for miami.

Agreed, and I’m happy with it. Not sure we do better than this for next season. Hope he’s healthy.

Wow! My “eh” is ONLY due to his arm issue but if he heals up properly and he’s not asked to do too much right away then I think it’s a great move.

On another note, I think Luke sitting behind Beck for one year and playing some mom up duty during the season will set him up nicely for the following few years. We can’t keep plugging QB’s on a 1 year rental and expect to recruit top QB’s.
no more excuses for mario next season. i’m pretty much already done with him but i’ll give him one final chance. the schedule is tough next year with road games against FSU, VT, and SMU but we cannot go another year without winning this damned conference…there’s so many reasons we should win:
- clemson is done under Dabo i think.
- SMU comes back down to earth next season as they have a pretty tough schedule
- McCord is gone from syracuse
- FSU…i’m a little worried about them with Malzahn calling plays and the QB looks a menace. but our roster top to bottom is better than theirs. we have to win it
- the program i’m worried about is Georgia Tech…i think they’re going to become a regular title contender for the league. thankfully we don’t play them next season

The Beck rumors started Thursday. He has some sort of “do not contact me” order on his transfer notice and his GF goes to UM, UM desperately needs a QB, etc. Given all that, not really all that surprising that he committed to Miami.
His stats for 2023 are outstanding, Ward-like. 2024, too many picks and the elbow problem is concerning. Hopefully, he heals up and solves his pick issue from last season. Not a great runner but can scramble if needed.
Certainly, Beck is much better than any other QB on the roster. We’ll see.

Beck likely to be paid four or five million to play for the Canes. The great thing about it is that he’ll be paid even more handsomely if he plays well next season. He has faced stiff competition in the SEC, and if his health holds out, he might follow in Ward’s footsteps, and we can look forward to another excellent season. Mario continues to impress as a recruiter.
You look at the final two teams - will howard and riley leonard are left standing. Miami was on howard hard until Ward became the target last year. Miami got the best qb in the portal this year.
I think what’s good about the Beck move is that HE will be motivated to do what Cam did, improve his draft stock. The money, motivation and his girlfriend have served us well. The jury will be out on how his arm heals but he will be a motivated guy. He won’t have the months with his receivers like Cam did but I suspect he/they will be fine for fall.
It’s a tough three week stretch for next year’s schedule having ND and Florida to play.
Notre Dame loses a lot of their team. I do like the backup who came into the game. Faison their wide receiver came from pinecrest in fort lauderdale. Not a school known for football talent.
he good news is that both ND and FL are home games for us. I’m going to guess that ND will be a night game, probably a 3:30 game for FL or a night game as well. Who knows?
