@bikki228 's post in another thread got me thinking about this
Fun Convo
Ranking UM’s top all-time Position groups (for NFL purposes!)
Elite, as good as any to being claiming position U title:
RB
S
TE
DT- (Maybe not on overall quantity, but no one can match that top 5 group…Clear DT U)
Very good, top 7-8 as far as schools laying claim to these positions.
WR (Awesome at the top, just “good” as far as depth?)
LB
(DB would be in this group if you combine S and Corner)
(DL would be in this group if you combine DE/DL)
Good but more like top 15 type, Ward hopefully improves it.
QB
A little low compared to the rest of what the school has produced, borderline top 20 or worse
OL
DE (2 studs at top in Hendricks and Campbell although Campbell has moved up and down the line during his stellar NFL career)
CB (Surprisingly worst position group, almost in an even lower categor which is really weird because UM is located one of the 2-3 best Meccas for CB recruits…)
——---------------------------------------
Top 5 each NFL (not college) position IMO, obv there are some TOUGH TOUGH cuts and I may miss an old timer or two
Each category kinda in order but some are really close
QB Kelly
QB Kosar
QB Testaverde
QB Erickson
QB Walsh
RB EJ
RB Gore
RB Portis
RB Anderson
RB Mcgahee (pre-injury was excellent and likely higher)
WR AJ
WR Irvin
WR Wayne
WR Moss
WR E.Brown (toss up with Blades/Perriman)
OL Mckinnie
OL Otto
OL Searcy
OL Carey
OL Feliciano
TE Graham (only his senior season at UM, but still)
TE Olsen
TE Shockey (the best CFB out of all of them imo)
TE Winslow
TE Franks
DT Sapp
DT Wilfork
DT Kennedy
DT Brown (career cut short or could be right there with top 2)
DT Maryland
DE Hendricks
DE Campbell
DE E.Edwards
DE Stubbs
DE Bailey (Rousseau likely moves up with another quality season or 2)
LB Lewis
LB Armstead
LB Vilma
LB Barrow
LB Morgan (Career cut short or likely moves higher, was great imo)
CB Mcneil
CB Lippett
CB Starks
CB Buchanon (value added as a kick returner early in career)
CB Shields
Antrel Rolle drafted as a corner, but was a prob bowler and spent more years as safety. Definitely our thinnest poisiton
S Reed
S Taylor
S D.Williams
S Rolle
S Marion
(Right there with LB as our deepest position…Just an awesome group . Worth noting that Rolle was drafted as a Corner and played there at UM and his first 3-4 seasons win the league. If we move him to our rather shallow corner group, then Bennie Blades next in line. But Merrieeather and Burgess Owens are right here as well. KP was rounding into a very good safety when the knee injuries got him, Rayshawn Jenkins is nearing 100 starts, Bubba Mcdowell had a really good career)
For fun
KR/PR: Hester (in his own category )
KR/PR: Benjamin
KR/PR: Moss
KR/PR: Parrish
KR/PR: Buchanon
Last 4 spots basically interchangeable with Kevin Williams and Fulton Walker…Lean to Benjamin slightly over the other 4
K/P:
P Feagles
K Badgely
P Bosher
Few other cups of coffee, hopefully AB has a long career and joins Feagles at top.
