ND has big money so clearly the game is changing. Until Miami added 20-30m to the football budget, we will be left in the dust.
Lsu clearly can produce championship teams and that team has some good talent now. Riley has a much easier path to the CFP and once in the CFP anything can happen.
Meh, I could be wrong with him going to LSU but I’ve always thought Kelly was overrated.
Unfortunately for us that means another very high profile job is open……so many good choices for quality coaches.
I just had a feeling about Kelly. Been at ND for over a decade. They are what they are. I said if I’m Stricklin at UF I at least make the call. Said this yesterday in the Napier thread I started. And what do you know…LSU makes that call and pulls it off! Or Kelly contacted them, however that went. Huge move! The SEC is just nuts now.

Miami should stay out of the over-the-top big salary fights. The Fresno coach left for The Washington Huskies today and most don’t think his salary numbers will be anywhere near the $EC oil-well craziness.
Miami has to shop carefully. Now I didn't say "very cheaply" ..Miami just has to structure the contract with escalator clauses for performance. My head is still reeling from the Spartans boning themselves for Mel Tucker.I am with 51, I never understood the hype of Kelly. I worry he is going to stroke out on the sideline anytime I see his team screw up. It seems his teams fail in the big pressure games year after year.
The money being spent this year is INSANE. Kelly and Riley both sign for $100M+ with incentives. If they were going after Mario or Lane, what type of numbers do you think they will throw out there in order to compete with their current places of employment? I would assume it would need to be $6-7M range. Mario makes $4.6, Lane makes $4.5, Manny makes $3.1.
Some of these deals have to have some serious loopholes for the university to get out. 100m over 10 years only works if they are winning.

Very surprising move but I imagine Kelly had sort of worn out his welcome at ND.
He was hired to win NC’s and has won zero. With all the money and resources ND
has, anything less, year after year, is failure. He probably figured he should leave while the going was good.
Miami should forget about hiring a coach this year. By the time the new AD gets up to speed, all of the pretty girls will already have prom dates.
I don’t think ND has as much money as everyone assumes. Reportedly he wanted upgrades for facilities and they refused, prompting his exit.
Pete Shinnick at West Florida is paid $144,000 a year. He does nothing but win. For the last three years, he has put UWF in the National Championship Div 2 playoffs, and won the National Championship last year. He has been a winner wherever he has coached. Hiring Pete, we could save millions, The guy is a great judge of talent. You have to be to find the diamonds in the rough after the better talent is grabbed by the Div I schools. Hiring Pete we could pay million dollar salaries to coordinators.
Sadly, I’m coming to this conclusion as well…hope I’m wrong.
