Brian Flores Retiring From Coaching

It’s the bigotry of low expectations.

Jobs should be offered on merit, experience, accomplishments. Period. End of story.

I don’t want a job because of the way that I look or the race or culture that I’m part of. That would make me feel constantly inadequate.

If black players believe they are underrepresented in leadership, they should strive to become the best black coaches, GM’s, and VP’s the game has to offer.

I’m so tired of this bill shit quota system we push.

And by the way- I was majorly upset when they canned Flores.

I like him. I thought he was the guy. It was like a punch to the gut.

But I’m not a fan of this strategy. I think it will blacklist him (no pun intended) from coaching ever again. They will fee like he’s a guy they can’t trust now.

Honestly, if you had of intended the pun, it still would have been the truth. I would not have been offended.

It’s just such a hamfisted rule. Now everyone in that situation is wondering if they’re being interviewed because of legit interest or checking a box for the Rooney Rule. The poor guy who went 0/10 on interviews…I’m sure he really appreciates the rule now .

I get the desire to have a better representation of minorities in coaching roles given the percentages of black players, but the Rooney rule isn’t taken seriously by some. It turns the whole interview process into a joke.

My thoughts exactly! You are basically wasting everyone’s time.

NEWS FROM THE FUTURE:
2026, Miami, Florida …
Dr. Julio Frenk Introduces The University Of Miami’s New Head Of Football Strength And Conditioning, Selma Mofoco, PhD. Said Frenk, “Dr. Mofoco represents the future of fitness and adds much needed diversity to our university environment.”

I work in corporate. Many upper level jobs are hired internally. Many times people interview for the jobs that have no chance at getting the job they are interviewing for. The person getting the job was highlighted years earlier and given the said job when it opens. So many wonder why interview. The reason being that you get noticed and thought about down the road based on if you interviewed well. You can open peoples eyes when you interview. A bad manager can no longer hide you. You can get put on the watch list and slated for another job you might not have been aware of or future jobs being created.

the Rooney Rule is needed to get awareness to coaches who might not get seen or known individually without the rule. Just because an individual does not get picked for that job does not mean the guy can not get picked for a OC DC or head job down the line. I think it is short sighted by Flores to not understand that. Yes i know he was a HC and thinks the has legitimate shots at jobs but that is just not the case. The Gmen clearly had their guy from years earlier evaluations. Now do i think the NYG were just filling an interview with Flores? Yes I think that is the case and that is poor judgement on their part. I do think they should have taken the time and interviewed an up and coming minority candidate for the future but that is clearly not what the Giants do and thus just shows they are a poorly run franchise.

I just experienced this. I interviewed for a promotion, that I did not get. The person that got it was being groomed for it. That said, the person that interviewed me told me what I lacked. He gave me clear information, not advice, on what he wanted me to do so when the position becomes available again, I will be ready.

Even worse than that. Like all affirmative action, it taints all (in this case) black candidates with the nimbus of not actually being qualified, but merely profiting from the stupid rules. Regardless of wehther their performance/acumen is deserving or not.

One ACL away from ruining the franchise. I hate this organization.

I could see if he was 24/25 and making this move. He’s 28 going on 29.

Tell me that you are not a well run organization, without telling me you are not a well run organization.

You just don’t get it and you never will. How often have guys done EVERYTHING you have asked of them and some underqualified guy gets the spot because “The Owner just likes him more?”.

Kliff Kingsbury is a PERFECT example of this. There’s no way in hell a Black coach that was mediocre at best as a HC(and was FIRED) could get an NFL HC job without spending YEARS rebuilding his image. Name a Black coach that would get hired as an HC at the NFL level despite having little if any relevant experience(Like the Texans tried to pull with McCown). There are high end Black offensive coordinators that can’t even get interviewed. How many Black guys with a resume like Joe Judge get interviewed, much less hired to be an HC?

People love to scream about meritocracy, but when a Black person is overqualified for a job, we still don’t get it. There’s always an excuse to deny us what we rightfully earned. Watching the confirmation hearings was living proof of that nonsense.
