China’s rocket technology is quickly advancing, but they were WAY behind us so they’re a bad example. 20 years ago the capital city of their country had streets dominated by bicycles.

Technology regresses all the time. Records were better than CDs. CDs were better than mp3s. We used to be able to make phone calls when the local power grid cut out. Appliances used to last longer. Electronics used to be repairable. Video games used to be sold complete. Film was vastly superior to the following video tape craze and early digital offerings. Houses used to be built out of tougher materials. Asbestos is superior insulation. Freon is a superior coolant. Everything sprayed better with CFCs. Roman concrete was unmatched until about 50 years ago. I could go on and on because technology regresses ALL THE TIME.
And some of these examples may be flippant, but the point is not to underestimate those old analog technologies. Many of them were quite superior to their digital replacements for quite a while.
