Supposedly an analyst role. Will take him in whatever capacity we can get him in. A veteran that has had elite defenses very recently (his MSU run in '18-'19). Have to find a way to keep him on as permanent assistant come '22 but we will cross that bridge.
A veteran that will bring a new set of eyes, discipline and some accountability to a defense that needs all of that more than anything. He aint a yes man either, I expect him to pay huge dividends for us. If we close with Williams to coach the LB’s like being rumored, I think this will be our best coaching staff in quite some time. DEFINITELY since the Richt era began.
not bad but i still don’t like Diaz calling plays. he needs to hire a DC so he can focus on head coaching stuff. just name Shoop the DC and hire a LB coach.
No, not meaning to be sarcastic. I am just suggesting that regardless of Shoop’s credentials. we can’t crown ourselves anything. Blake Baker is still going to be the DC. Even Brent Venables can’t save this D if Baker is still the DC.
Lol, you might want to read up on your Canes buddy. Baker is gone.
and I feel you TeamU, would def prefer a DC over Manny calling plays. We dont have enough space to bring on both Shoop and LB coach though. I’d can Patke’s ass but we arent doing that so blah.
LOL Damn. I have been under a rock for a couple of weeks. Last I saw, Baker was being kept as DC and Manny was taking over playcalling duties for the D.
Damn. I did not know he’d been fired. I am please to hear the news, but What a way to find out!
I have been advocating for Jim Leavitt for a while now. What’s the scuttlebutt on a replacement??
Lmao. Baker left for LSU LB job yesterday. Not really sure what is next as far as staff moves. Some stuff out there about Travis Williams being LB coach but havent heard anything regarding DC. Buckle up.
Shoop is certainly qualified to be Miami’s DC so one wonders about the mere “analyst” role.
Maybe he doesn’t want to commit to being a full-time DC?
Maybe he looked at Miami’s defensive personnel?
To me, this screams “serious health issue”. If so, hopefully he is well now.
In lieu of a homerun DC hire, I’m all for Manny calling plays and being the de facto DC. Let Rhett run the offense, Manny runs the defense on game day. Unfortunately, Baked morphed into something akin to a Dono clone.
The biggest key is that Manny has parted with friends and did so in a way that didn’t burn bridges. I would have liked for Manny to have waited on DVD to see if he could have landed a Lb and DC coach. trob clearly can handle DBs.
