Bethune-Cookman game attendance

Good grief… it’s downright embarrassing how bad the attendance for the Bethune Cookman game is.

When I lived in Miami, I went to every single game.

If I was a top-rated recruit, I would have to factor that into my decision when considering where I would go. Playing in front of an empty stadium has to be deflating.

Key point…“IN MIAMI”, nothing will change with attendance until the issue of some sort of stadium “in” Miami happens. Miami is a small school so we need an Orange Bowl type of venue that we can truly make into a college football stadium. Heck, a 50k facility would be just fine.

Hard Rock Stadium capacity: 65,326
Miami Orange Bowl capacity: 72,319

The issue with Miami has nothing to do with the facility… it’s the local fan base that are the issue. It’s not just for Miami Hurricanes football… every single Miami sports team suffers the same fate. Unless they are winning big, or playing a big rival, the fans simply don’t show up.

I was living in Miami when the MLB expanded to Miami and the Marlins came to town. Baseball was supposed to thrive in Miami because of the large Cuban, central and south American population. Nope.

Soccer was also supposed to do well because of the large hispanic population. Nope.

It’s unfortunate, but Miami is just a terrible sports town… and the only team I really care about there is my Hurricanes. And they suffer for it.

Damn, 89 brought the receipts

89, good post. I don’t live there so I really wouldn’t know but it’s sad that such a great city is such a bad sports town.

The tourism and nightlife overwhelm it all.

Too many sports team, college and professional, are battling for basically the same fan base and its purse.

We don’t have the same problem in NY though.
