I’m just a fan with no insider information nor “boots on the ground.” I watch a decent amount of sports but UM football is somehow still my favorite team (native NY’er exiled to Florida in early 80’s, Dillard High grad albeit lived in Davie, people of that era know the score). Let’s be FANS and have some fun. No expectations of former glory, just what’s the game this week. Live in the moment.
I hate UF. Not as much as FSU but still. I had a lot of high school friends go to UF, zero to FSU. That notwithstanding, screw them both. I loved it when all three teams played each other every year. Will never happen again. The proverbial “three walk in, one walks out.”
So, c’mon, let’s have fun. I say UM takes an early lead versus UF then they grind back into the game. Ward has to improvise. UM secondary gets temporarily torched. UF has to come from behind which falls into the hands of the UM DL.
So in the end UM 24, UF 21 in a squeaker. Score could be similar but higher if the respective defenses don’t congeal in time. Anecdotally, early games seem to favor offense where individual players can make a bigger difference than scheme.
Would love to see the ‘Canes punch a rival in the mouth early and control a game throughout. Not expecting it, but sure would be sweet smashing the hated Gator. Call me a fool, but I always have high hopes going into the season. And have been humbled for many many years now. Just happy college football is back!
One might think that FSU getting spanked would have an impact on thoughts for the upcoming UM/UF game. Herald, Sun-Sentinel, The Athletic, ESPN, Der Spiegel, no one seems to care to really pump up the volume pre-game. I mean it is supposed to be one of the marquee matchups for the weekend.
Here I get the silence since we’re all beaten dogs cowering in the corner hoping no one notices us.
I am so unsure about this game… On one hand, if I believe the media hype on how Miami has the superior talent, I feel like Miami wins this by two or three scores.
The real problem I am having is less with talent, but the coaching staff. Questionable decisions in game management and in play calls have made me cagey.
I don’t think UF is as formidable or scary as they have been in years past–they don’t scare me.
I think this is Miami’s game to lose.
So if I had to make a call, I will have to temper expecations. I think I like Indiana’s prediction–Miami by 10.
That particular game proved to be surprisingly one sided. Of course, VT and Cal made up for it so far.
UF will be lucky to win 6 games this year. Their coach likely gets fired. FSU is bad this year, too but Norvell will get another year because of last year (and his buyout is steep.) Neither team’s alumni and boosters will tolerate a loser for long and they have deep pockets.
