Wow. Halftime, and Tech is the best team on the field… On both sides of the ball! 17-0 and it could have been 24-0. Tech had over 300 yards of offense to UGAs ~100. They haven’t been shut out in a first half since 2919!
I did NOT see this coming.
I hope the Canes are watching and see they can’t take ANYONE lightly!
I absolutely hate the college overtime rules. The flag football element of short field overtime makes a joke out of a hard fought contest that ended in a draw. Non-championship games should be allowed to end in a tie.
In the case of championship games, I would much prefer a coin toss, a kickoff and sudden death for one quarter. If the quarter of sudden death ends in a tie then maybe a shootout of sorts to get the game ended would be okay. I’d say each team gets the ball on the opponents 10 and gets 4 downs, no first downs. First team that fails to keep up score wise loses.
That thing last night, ending with a battle of two point conversions, was a joke IMHO.
I recall watching a NY Islanders playoff game as a yute. IRRC, it went 3 full 20 minute scoreless OT periods and ended in the 4th 20 minute OT period. I guess now they have a penalty shot contest right off the bat? I feel the same way about hockey OT as football OT.
Edit: I looked it up, it was Easter Weekend, April, 1987. Pat La Fontaine scored the winning goal against the Washington Caps midway into the 4th OT period, two minutes before 2am. The game lasted 6+ hours. A bit much. The Caps had been up 3-1 in that series. The Islanders lost to the Flyers in the next round and the Flyers lost to the Oilers in the finals.
GT got screwed, multiple blatent holding by bulldog linemen, a bullshit pass interference call that the ball was tipped on that led to a td and that Haynes fumble was from a targeting shot they ignored. Straight ref shit show. Refs literally allowed 3 TD’s for Georgia ,to make it a game because they didn’t do their fuking job as usual.
I don’t often agree with Willie Burz, but he nails it on this game. GT had the game won but for a stinking pass interference call on a 4th down. Horrible call, bringing back memories of the Canes losing that NC game against Ohio State.
