Funny, I tend to think more of college basketball and a team “peaking at the right time” but maybe this is the case for Clemson too?
If Clemson humiliates SMU does that shake things up? Or SMU still in the playoffs?
There is what should happen, and what will happen. What should happen if SMU gets beat badly, is that SMU still gets in, and Alabama gets knocked out. But we all know that is not what will happen. SMU will end up as the first team out, and Alabama will stay in. I think it was Aaron Taylor that said this was not a meritocracy, but a ‘brandocracy’. Alabama is in the playoff because they are Alabama.
If SMu gets crushed, this “playoff” is going to turn into a college basketball style SEC/Big10 Challenge. The ACC will get one measly spot, the Big 12 will get one measly spot, and the entire Group of 5 will get one measly spot. Just enough to appease the non-Big10/SEC programs. Take your crumbs and STFU and quit complaining.
SMU better get its shit together, or they are OUT.
