There are currently five scenarios where Miami gets into the ACCCG
Miami beats Pitt. SMU beats Cal, Duke loses to WF, UVa loses to VaTech = Miami vs. SMU in the ACCCG
Duke beats WFand SMU loses to Cal and UVa loses to VaTech = Miami vs. Duke in the ACCCG
UVa beats VaTech AND Duke loses to WF AND SMU loses to Cal AND Syracuse beats BC AND NCState loses to UNC = Miami vs. UVa in the ACCCG
UVa beats VaTech AND Duke loses to WF AND SMU loses to Cal AND Syracuse loses to BC AND NCState beats UNC = Miami vs. GaTech in the ACCCG
UVa beats VaTech AND Duke loses to WF AND SMU loses to Cal AND Syracuse loses to BC AND NCState loses to UNC = UVa vs GaTech, SMU or Miami (in a 3 way tie for 2nd place, which will be decided by the Sports Source Ratings Score in which Miami holds the edge) the ACCCG. So most likely would be Miami vs UVa in the ACCCG.
Yah, for sure every single scenario depends on Miami taking care of its business.
I am going to believe the team knows exactly what they are playing for. The team can take matters into their own hands and it won’t come down to having to trust CMC. Believe me… I have been bitten by this so many times.. but I just HAVE to believe.
Do I think all the other 437 things that have to happen will? Well… no. But I have to think the boys will take care of what they can control.
My current ACC Power ratings…Long-term injuries accounted for, week-to-week are not. ACC per uzh is wild and the pointspread often doesn’t mean a thing more than any other conf except for CUSA.
UM 16 (tied for 10th in the country with Oklahoma, for reference OSU is top team 6.5)
SMU 22.5
Pitt 24
Louisville 24.5 with Moss (Moss DNP vs. SMU, but at least 28.5 with backup not sure yet)
Clem 24.5
FSU 25.5
GT 26.5
VA 28
Duke 30.5
Wake 32.5
NC St 33.5
CAl 34
VT 35
UNC 37
Stan 38.5
Cuse 40
BC 40.5
I honestly think we will come in to this game very locked in. I know, I know…I can’t believe I just said that but we have played with some renewed energy these past few weeks. Can you imagine last year’s offense with this year’s D?
I seriously doubt Miami makes the ACCCG; they blew two winnable conference games to good not great teams and that has consequences.
If Miami slides by Pitt, they will be on the bubble to make the playoffs as the 12th seed.
If they win very convincingly, they have a good shot. It depends what ND does. Given the stakes, I would expect ND to annihilate a very weak Stanford team. Miami is -6.5, ND is -32.5.
If it comes down to Miami and ND, the long tradition of the NCAA screwing Miami will rear its ugly head once again.
I’d almost rather Miami get a bid to a premiere non-playoff bowl game and actually win it than get into the playoffs as the 12th seed and get destroyed by a high seed.
As a former Hoosier (as a yute) and a former IU fan, I will cheer for IU and hope they win their 1st? NC in football.
Beck will probably sit out the bowl game even though I doubt he gets drafted. (Maybe in the late rounds.) He isn’t an NFL caliber talent IMHO.
So, Williams gets the start? I’d start Toney at QB just for entertainment purposes alone. I don’t think Williams is more than a serviceable backup but I could be wrong.
Not the NCAA per se but everyone on the committee save one is associated with the NCAA presently or in the past. I doubt there are many Miami advocates on the committee.
Committee members include:
Hunter Yurachek: Chair, Director of Athletics at the University of Arkansas
Chris Ault: Former head coach and athletics director at the University of Nevada
Mark Dantonio: Former head coach at the University of Cincinnati and Michigan State University
Carla Williams: Director of Athletics at the University of Virginia
Jeff Long: Former athletics director at the University of Pittsburgh, Arkansas, and Kansas
Chris Massaro: Director of Athletics at Middle Tennessee State University
Mack Rhoades: Director of Athletics at Baylor University
Mike Riley: Former head coach at Oregon State and Nebraska
David Sayler: Director of Athletics at Miami University, OH
Wesley Walls: Former tight end for Ole Miss and the San Francisco 49ers
Troy Dannen: Director of Athletics at the University of Nebraska
I do believe we’ll make the playoff if we beat Pitt but that’s a big IF. I feel like I’ve seen this story before….must win game, on the road, cold weather, against a team we are more talented than….I feel that we lose this type of game more often than not. zero confidence
Athletic directors and coaches are NOT the NCAA. And I guarantee you that former players and current sports journalists aren’t. You make it sound like Miles Brand, Mark Emmert and Charlie Baker are picking the schools for this thing. LOL
The guy above said it all, you want to be in this thing? Beat Louisville and SMU. They both suck hard. No excuses. We had 13 days after a bad 4th quarter in Tallahassee to prepare for a nationally televised game and looked like bums for over a half vs a UL team who finished 4-4 in the ACC. Instead, SMU will waltz into the playoff after beating UVA and get curb stomped by Notre Dame. This is two years without a good Clemson or FSU in this league and we didn’t win it. They’ll get better. So will VT who plays us well enough already. SMU will get better than this year’s team they have too. Then where will we be?
So let’s not make it look like there’s some conspiracy to keep Miami out of a playoff field that we’d never survive anyway.
