Interesting news, but we won’t know how much it’s worth until they make a real announcement with details.
Given the last 20 years since joining the ACC, I think most Miami fans will welcome SOME kind of change.
It’s cold up north in Nov/Dec…
Makes me nervous…
That is why we have the pac12 south division. Haha
i wonder if they would be bold enough to radically redo the schedule to really compete with the SEC. something like move teams into extremely competitive ‘pods’ to entice huge dollar tv deals. i’m thinking something like:
pod a:
Clemson
FSU
Miami
UNC
pod b:
Ohio St
Michigan
Penn State
Wisconsin
pod c:
USC
Notre Dame
Nebraska
Oregon
etc etc
lol it would never happen, but that would be something
I can see something along the ACC / BIG 10 challenge in basketball where the you play 2 of your non conference games against your counterparts in the other conferences based on the place you finish the previous year. Plus some standing together in negotiations for playoff layout (limit number of teams per conference that can play in the playoff), bowl games affiliations etc.
Can they put Miami in a division by itself … so at least UM can win its division occasionally???
Gets divided up by regions
Non conf games are vs different regions
Region champs make conf title game somehow
That’s my thoughts
What I want to see is ESPN being charged as a monopoly when it comes to college football. I know…I know …it’s a fever-dream…but in light of recent developments …I’d argue that just one media outlet owning the broadcast rights to most of college football is unhealthy and prevents fair competition and exposure .
Be careful, you are about to cross into political waters. HA
Do we even have anti-trust laws? Pretty sure the Baby Bells in 1982 were the last time the laws were used.
You’d think that the major streaming companies would somehow break up ESPN’s rights… nope!
Here is another thought:
What would it cost Miami to break from the ACC to go Independent then sign with a streaming company (Amazon, Google/Youtube, Facebook, Hulu)? Miami would likely need to be open to more of the all access type of shows not just in the summer but year round.
The ACC signed off on a deal with ESPN without any long term thought. It now shows what a ludicrous move it was with ESPN having them locked up for a fraction of the price it paid for the broadcast rights of the SEC.
The college-football ground is shifting…now is the time to drag ESPN’s ass under the bright-lights and let the world know that one media outlet has a stranglehold on college-football.
