2021 Defense Board

Same Drill as past years…Looking for legit 2 way interest OR a strong try-county player that I think could have interest at some point.

DT: 2-3…I would prefer 3

Leonard Taylor, UM Commit

Collins’ teammate and a probable 5
/top 5 player in the state. Carries his current 270 very well. Looks like a taller Aaron Donald type build, almost like a big linebacker. Fast and fluid for big man and maybe top overall target on UM’s board.

Allan Haye UM Commit

Big bowling ball, run stuffer type on the inside that looks country strong. Can play over the nose when needed. Only been playing football two seasons…Needs to work on staying low and balance, but can be a good one. Nice get.

? Darrell Jackson, DE/DT

?Tyrique Sapp (UF Commit)

Maason Smith, LA
https://www.hudl.com/profile/9795675/Maason-Smith
One would think a nearly impossible pull from Bayou country, but he seems to be listening.

DE- Need 1-2…Would prefer 2. Rousseau’s gone…If Phillips does anything, I can’t see him hanging around being his been in school 4 years and has had injuries. Although you can’t hang your hat on this, it really is a HUGE DE class next year in Dade and Broward.

*Jabari Ishmael UM Commit

Top local target and son of a long-tie UM strength staff assistant. Played on same DL as Elijah Roberts last year. Little bit of a project but at 6’5 with that length he is a take all day.

Thomas Davis GA, DE/OLB UM Commit

Short (6’1?) twitchy pass rusher that sounds like he’s moving up the board. Not always pretty, but the motor is apparent. Plays hard and violent and looks like he will put on some weight.

Patrick Payton DE/OLB (Nebraska Commit)

LB Need 3-4 including strikers…Will be some overlap between OLB/DE, Striker/S…I list em where I think they project best as of now. I still think one of J.Harrell/K.Wash gets moved to striker, but maybe not the lock it once was with Keonta Smith already moving.

*Tyler Johnson, UM Commit

2 different suspensions junior year. Doesn’t do many interviews. Plays mostly DE in HS, but has shined at 2 Paradis camps in LB drills. Jaquan Johnson younger bro.

*Jaydon Hood, Michigan Commit

*?Terrance Lewis

*Deshawn Troutman UM Commit

Love this kid and glad Baker/Diaz and co. did too…Awesome highlight tape. Reminds me of a faster Pickney. Probable Mike that can play will…Really diagnoses and takes angles well. Size only question.

Chase Smith ATH UM Commit

A favorite of mine…If I had to call it, I’d say Stiker/OLB…But man the kid looks like he could play WR or S too. Either side of the ball, just get him here.

Others: Braden Jennings, Jax Sandalwood

DB Need 4-5…Tricky this year at the safety position because which kids from last year will end up at striker, and also how long will Bubba Bolden be at UM? 3 corners needed, maybe portal for 1?

Tim Burns CB

Would not have dropped this kid…

Charles Brantley CB (Mich St. Commit)

Really like his tape and shouldn’t be too hard to pull from MSU. UM has been in touch lately, and hope he’s near the top of our seemingly empty mid November board.

Damarius Mcghee CB

? Marvin Covington, TX

Jason Marshall CB (UF Commit)

Derrick Edwards DB (Louisville Commit)

Underrated kid who takes a back seat to the bigger Palmetto names…Nice tape and productivity at both safety or corner.

Khalil Anderson CB, GA (Pitt Commit)

Markevius Brown CB

IMG by way of Pahokee.

? Da’Quan Gonzales DB

Really like this kid, makes plays all over the field on both sides. Most likely a corner, but could be a ballhawking safety too.

*Kamron Kinchens S UM Commit

No real weaknesses other than no particularly rangy. Natural football player, 9 picks a year ago, and shows athleticism and shiftiness in the runbacks. Physical and instinctive

James Williams S/LB UM Commit

Not Sure he’s the 5
#1 player in Florida… But he’s a clear high ceiling prospect. Not many 6’5 220 17 year old safeties…But I think there’s a CHANCE he sticks at the position. Covers a lot of ground and has ball skills.

Terrion Arnold CB/S

Would be a nice pull out of North Florida. All the big boys involved so probably a longshot. UM recruiting as corner

OTHERS: .D. Sistrunk CB, Eau Gaille (Missouri Commit) …T.Russell DB, STA…Ricardo Hallman DB FTL U School (Wisconsin commit)…K.Knowles CB (FSU Commit)…D.Chestnut ATH Camden, NJ (Syracuse Commit), J.Mcburrows CB, STA (Michigan commit)

Move this to the recruiting board mod? My bad

Now that we have Couch emerging and Blades looking more and more likely to come back, I’m feeling a little less desperate about CB. But Curtis should be a WR and even they make him a CB, he won’t contribute at CB for 2 years. So we need at least one HS or CB who can contribute immediately for that position group to be solid next year.

Hope the class cap gets upped a bit and we have room for T2 or Hood. We could really use their talent.

This still has me a little desperate. Couch looks like he could be a difference maker, but Blades… he is too inconsistent and a bit of a mystery.

We would be worried about corner…Need at least 2, 3 would be perfect.

Blades has always seemed a few steps slow to me. He always seems to be catching up to a play, and rarely seems to be in position. He is a good tackler but definitely needs to improve his coverage skills. I hope he comes back next year and continues to grow.

Blades is still better than Ivey…It’s puzzling to me that he was the one who is now sharing time. I’m starting to think Ivey has bad pictures of Baker/Rumph/or Diaz

Sad, but true.

Have to think we drop Collins, take Payton plus 2 CBs (QB for last spot). With the season getting pushed back, no visits allowed, no AA games… I have to think some kids will slide from the early period to the late. We then have staff changes post bowl game which hopefully gives the new CB coach (yes, I hope this finally happens) a month to pull 2 kids.

With Burns gone, we’ve got 21. Drop Collins and we’re at 20.

I thought we only had space for 24 because of the Walker or Williams transfer? If it’s 25, then that would be amazingly good news.

My priorities:
#1 QB – GT if King goes pro, HS if not
#2 CB1 – prefer GT, but plug-and-play HS CB okay. e.g., a Bandy type
#3 CB2
#4 DE – Payton would be nice.
#5 OT – McGlaughlin shouldn’t be the only offensive tackle taken

*If T2, Hood, Alexis, Brooks or another elite kid wants in, I’d forgo any of #3-5 for them, accept being a little thin at CB, DE or OT for those dudes.

I don’t track recruiting or numbers like I use to.

20
Give me 3 CB, 1 QB, Payton

I would also be ok with 2 CB, Collins, QB, Payton

What are the chances Avanatae Williams is moved to corner? If anyone could play it it would be him considering he medically eligible to play it. Could his progress be part of the Burns being dropped?

I wouldn’t drop Collins. I know there are rumors and I disagree with it. If you hate him, and think his work ethic is that bad? OK…But if you just think it’s some laziness you can light a fire under? You take him…Big/athletic local kids don’t grow on trees, can help at DT or guard.

No idea how some of the formatting happens on this site…Large font/small font, bold, italics etc…It kinda does it’s own thing when reading a copy/paste from elsewhere
