#18 In Both Polls

Exactly where I thought UM would be; not 17, not 19, 18.

Just a couple of week ago, Miami was #2 and some thought Miami should be #1.

Well, not anymore. Two really bad games against good not great teams and here we are.

I would like to see Dawson go assuming Miami can get someone good to replace him.

He is not Patrick Nix or Dan Enos bad but he is still pretty bad.

If Miami had a really good QB who protected the ball and could run, they would be a legit Top 10 team, maybe even Top 5. But, we have Beck so that’s not happening.

6-2, I would bet Miami finishes 9-3 or 8-4. I hope they don’t go 7-5 or lose out but it could happen.

When it’s third and short, NFL teams throw to the TE on a short out or slant. We’re supposed to be formidable at tight end. We’ve got the Swiss Army Knife Elijah Lofton, and we have Bauman who tore it up playing for Tulane. It seems Dawson`ignores TEs. If you’re going to ignore TEs, why not substitute a guard or tackle for a TE for extra blocking skill.

Thoughts on Ken Dorsey for OC. I think he would be hungry to prove himself.

I would prefer someone similar to Lashlee. He was the best OC we’ve had in a long time.

I think a desirable intangible is the ā€œkid the the candy shop.ā€ A potential OC who sees the raw athleticism and talent he would be working with at Miami and it makes him dream of all the interesting stuff he could do with that sort of talent. Someone not ā€œscheme boundā€ but looks at the ingredients in the kitchen and makes the tastiest stew out of that.

Yeah, I would agree that a new OC might be needed. Cam seems to have bailed him out last year. He’s not showing me much this year.

Having a mobile QB certainly would help.

If we get another QB that’s able to run the offense similar to how Cam did, then it’s Beck.

Put a fork in them?

I honestly think UM should be higher. I’m not saying we’re playing well or going to make the playoffs but two close losses and beat the number 10 team. I don’t think Miami will do it but run the table and I think we have a good chance to get in. There will be carnage above us.

1-Ohio State - Bye

2-Indiana- Bye

3-Texas A&M-Bye

4-Alabama -Bye

I would have had Texas A&M #1, Ohio State -#2, Indiana #3 and Bama #4 (I still feel Bama is a fraud). They cant stop the run and I feel Simpson is being overrated as a QB. If they play Texas A&M in the SEC title game, I could see them get blown out.

5-Georgia vs.12-Memphis

6-Ole Miss vs. 11 UVA

7-BYU vs. 10 Notre Dame

8-Texas Tech vs. 9 Oregon

Oregon had at the time a nice win over Penn State on the road. If Oregon loses and they are a two loss team, I don’t believe they get in unless a ton of crazy happens….

Alabama (7-1) vs. LSU, Oklahoma and AU

UGA (7-1) Miss State, Texas, Charlotte, Georgia Tech

Oregon (7-1) Iowa, Minnesota, USC, Washington

Ole Miss (7-1) vs. UF, Miss State

Texas Tech (7-1) BYU, UCF, West Virginia (they lose to BYU - I believe they are out)

UVA (7-1) Wake, Duke, VT (Biggest Fraud - Will lose one of their final three..maybe even 2)

Louisville (7-1) Cal, Clemson, SMU, UK

GT (7-1) BC, Pitt, Georgia

Memphis (8-1)

2 Loss Teams

Notre Dame -Navy, Pitt, Syracuse, Stanford (Could lose to Pitt)

Oklahoma (7-2) Alabama, Missouri, LSU

Texas (7-2) UGA, Arkansas, Texas A&M

Vandy (7-2) Auburn, UK, Tennessee

Utah (7-2) Baylor, Kansas State, Kansas

Michigan (7-2) Northwestern, Maryland, Ohio State

Missouri (6-2) Texas A&M, Miss State, Oklahoma, Arkansas

Washington (6-2) Wisconsin, Purdue, UCLA, Oregon

Pitt -7-2 (Notre Dame, GT, Miami)

USC-6-2 (Northwestern, Iowa, Oregon, UCLA)

Miami 6-2 (Syracuse, Virginia Tech, NC State, Pitt)

I seem to recall that when Shannon was the head coach fans always said ā€œcorch.ā€ I think this was some joke about how he always spouted the same line without any nuance as to what was happening. Like, ā€œGuys are flying around, hitting peopleā€ when they just got licked 35-3.

Would one say that Cristobal has some of this in him? I mean, it sounds like his pressers from the last few weeks could just be cut and pasted from the previous week. There’s no insight. No introspection. Nothing ā€œreal.ā€ Perhaps this is a source of fan disgruntlement?

And speaking of the #10…

It is an absolute travesty that ND is ranked this high. Their best wins are two close losses. And one of those was to a slipping Miami team. Their only real win worth talking about was to a mediocre USC.

Even if I weren’t a Miami Hurricane fan, and by extension a bona fide ND hater, I would say this.

Recency bias is bad enough, but ND ALWAYS get the ā€˜benefit of the doubt’. The ND bias is nauseating.

I think the committee gets swept up in recency bias and public sentiment too much. A 30 point win over a weak team isn’t worth as much as close wins over good teams. A loss is a loss. ND shouldn’t get a pass for almost beating top teams.

Also, the SEC always gets the benefit of the doubt. Georgia almost lost to Florida and Miami handled them. Yet, we get flack for lack of quality wins and they get a pass for squeaking by Florida.

Alabama gets a pass for getting handled by FSU and we don’t get credit for owning them.

We don’t get any credit for the South Florida win and they are smoking other teams and beat Florida.

The logic isn’t consistent at all.

It’s a tv production. They show their true colors during the these events.

Miami will probably not make the playoffs.

They might end up losing four games, more likely three. But, they could win out and have only two losses. Not terrible but the L-ville and SMU losses were inexcusable.

Depending on how a few games end up, Miami could move up a slot or two this week..

BYU lost for one.

Who would have guessed before the season that FSU and Clemson would both be 4-5 at this point???

EDIT: The games I was referring to were Louisville/Cal and Wake/UVA.

Both Louisville and UVA were ranked ahead of Miami, 14 and 12 respectively and both should drop in the polls as will BYU will lost badly to Texas Tech.

Miami may end up 15 or 16 this week?

There are still 4 one loss teams in the ACC,GT, UVA, SMU and Duke, that are ahead of Miami in the ACC rankings. I doubt any of those teams wins out in conference games, but, it is hard to see how Miami can win the ACC.

If Miami wins out, which is about a 50/50 chance, Miami could finish higher in the rankings than the eventual ACC champion. And if the committee picks the conference champ, Miami could end up being stiffed again.

Screwing the pooch and losing to Louisville and SMU has consequences.
