1-11 update

Just for those who aren’t completely up to date. To tell you truth, I like what we’ve done in portal so far outside of the WR position. A #1 corner would have been nice, but honestly there were only a couple of those and the rest you would be going by HS rankings that they haven’t lived up to yet

Current Scuttlebutt

CB Terry Roberts- Iowa (from Erie, PA originally, sounds like great shot here IF we want him…I would take him. Then again would take most players on Iowa’s 2 deep defense…Not many programs in today’s landscape still get offended when he other team scores. Iowa is one of them. And he’s played plenty of ball for them in his 4 years)

DT Justin Roberts- UK. The big 300lb+ DT we all seem to want. Rumors that transcripts may not match up, rumors he is rescheduling. Seems to like SEC. No idea

DT Isaiah Nichols- Ark. No idea if a priority. Visited though. Did Deen take his spot??

WR Gary Bryant- USC. Small but not tiny (5’11ish) can play inside or outside. Former top 100 kid that UM recruited out of HS. IS USC’s NIL intact? Have to think so with how well they’ve done in portal. Why would he leave Caleb Williams and Lincoln Riley? Maybe wasn’t real keen on Addison/Williams passing him up?

WR Eddies Lewis- Memphis. New interest WR/Returner. Should get interest. From NYC originally. Went Rutgers/Juco/Memphis… 1 year

RB Larry McCammon- Talented FAU back. No offer yet, but Kevin Smith is checking in and he recruited him to FAU. He is nice player. I don’t believe he is better than what we have when they are healthy. But he can definitely play at UM.

DB/S Isaiah Johnson- ASU. Former high 4* out of HS.

All in all I expect this (minimum) outta portal:

1 More CB

And Possibly up to 3 more of these:
1 more DT (Hopefully, need some size imo)

I heard that Jackson might be come back to the U? I think I got his name right? The DT that left to go to Noles. Any truth to that rumor?

I think we are solid at OL, QB and TE
We need one more RB and of course WR help unless we can get some miracles from what we currently have on the team.

I think we are solid at DE
Razor thin at Safety
Decent but not great at DB
Nice LB pickups but still need a little depth
Making progress on the DT

As you say, it will be interesting to see what we can pickup in round one of portal and who else may leave in spring and then round 2 of portal.

It will be interesting how we scheme on both sides of the ball this year.

No that was about 5-6 days ago…

He him hawwed around…Acted like a child. IG’d…Re-IG’d. And decided to stay at FSU.

We need one more DT, preferably with some size and a WR.
We could also use a corner and safety, although corner does have numbers.

I would only expect RB/DE if they are upgrades.

Staff doesn’t seem to think safety is as dire a need as the fan base. J.Harris may be moving to safety as well.

TE from Oregon.

CMC probably looking for some TE blocking and physicality and obviously likes him from his time at Oregon. As you would expect from a kid this old, had multiple season ending injuries at UO

Think it’s a possibilty we lose a TE to portal…Maybe this forces Mammarelli out, no idea.

Apparently, Balom the DB decided not to transfer.

This shyt is crazy. No way this immediate transfer system is sustainable IMHO.

I don’t know why coaches would prefer CFB…just too brutal and grinding. No off-season anymore…that’s spent on recruiting and player retention and portal acquisition…which you’re also doing during the season now. In addition to your primary job coaching players.

Skeeter, how do you rate him?

I love the pickup. He was a starter this year before injury for one of the top 6-7 defenses in the country and more importantly one of the best 6-7 DEFENSIVE PROGRAMS in the country year in and year out. Iowa was his only D-1 offer so you know he is a worker. We need an Iowa type kid on this defense…With all the softness we’ve had on that defense in recent years.

You know he is high on IQ, can tackle, and can probably move all around the secondary although his experience at Iowa is playing traditional outside corner. (his size suggests nickel, but I’m sure he’ll be tried at both). I’m hearing he may be used at safety…But I think he gets a shot to win corner job and wouldn’t surprise me on

Iowa message board types love the kid and say he is a machine on special teams…I think he will be a definite contributor on D/ST if he doesn’t start

I’m on board with taking any and all Secondary players that can help us out. I agree with the toughness comment.

We’ve had some really athletic secondary players that don’t have a clue out there and have no heart.

That being said, I wouldn’t count on him to be a savior. We have to recruit a lot better.

He was a starter on a defense that was a hell of a lot better than ours. Think he’s a nice addition that will play a ton no matter what his role is.

Skeeter, how much of that is Iowa scheme though?

I’m not saying he can’t be good here or isn’t welcome. I just know that Iowa always has a good defense and it doesn’t really matter who is out there.

Maybe it translates to Miami. Hope so

Terry Roberts back to portal…Was hoping this kid worked out. But looks like more spring DB portal additions have pushed him away.

There needs to be a rule about this. He already jumped into the portal and is now jumping back in. I think once you jump into the portal you have to remain on that team for the season before jumping back into the portal again. Or at the very least sit out for the season.

Not really…He’s graduated…He’s a senior, and wants one last shot at playing football/getting tape out there, etc.

UM’s likely not worried about it one bit (I mean obviously they liked some things he brought to table, but kept hitting up the portal after landing him and then seeing him in spring) and needs the space.
