Yankees and Mets

To segregate fans according to vax vs unvaxxed.

Terrible decision.

That’s New York for you.

At some point states need to just say “we’re open - vaccine is available - choose to get it (or not) - you assume the risks.

Didn’t the Heat already do this?

Not good.

There was a time when restaurants had smoking/no smoking sections.

I’m old enough to remember air planes having smoking sections. AIR PLANES. :joy::joy:

I don’t think it’s all that bad. The way I see it, they’re catering to both audiences.

  1. You got vaccinated, and want to feel safe knowing the people around you also got vaccinated? You’ve got seats.

  2. You don’t think it’s important to get vaccinated, and you don’t care whether others are vaccinated either? You’ve got seats.

It seems like a compromise where everyone’s happy to me. Lord knows there are plenty of seats, and it’s very possible having a vaccinated section allows the stadiums to fill seats more densely under covid measures.

It doesn’t make sense because either the vaccine works or it doesn’t.

Are you saying that the vaccine either has 0% efficacy or 100% efficacy?

Because THAT wouldn’t make sense.

I’m saying that for it to really be a carbine it should inoculate (produce immunity) 9 out of 10 or more people. It clearly doesn’t.

And worse yet- we’re soon to see the side effects.

But more importantly, baseball games are outside. They are low risk events. MLB should simply say- come at your own risk.

Holy crap I remember the commercials saying we’re no smoking on all flights. Revolutionary!

I disagree. Here’s how I see it:

-I’m vaccinated. So I figure I can go to a sporting event. I’m largely protected, and even if I get COVID I’m not nearly as likely to spread it, protecting others.

-If I’m not vaccinated and I’m close to someone who is, i figure - F that, I’m not getting a vaccine - but I’m close to people who have been and I’m less likely to get it. And if I do, I assume that risk.

If I’m not mistaken the vaccines give north of 90% protection against severe disease. There’s a chance you could get pretty sick, but you wouldn’t die.

It’s time. The vaccine is widely available. I’d encourage people to get it. But if you choose not to, ok. You assume the risks. Just like I assume the possible long term risks of the vaccine.

First of all, this isn’t true at all. Lots of vaccines are far less effective than 90%.

If we’re talking about the mRNA vaccines, it does better than that. But even at 95% efficacy, herd immunity still comes into play. You can have 1000 people, all vaccinated, and the chances of a single effective transmission are miniscule. But if you have 999 unvaxxed peeps and 1 vaccinated person, then they’re looking at a 5% chance of contracting the virus.

Ah, yes, with customer-centric policies like that, how could they lose???

Here’s the thing. This is smart capitalism. They’re providing a safer environment for vaxxed people who care about it, while still providing an environment for people who don’t.

If they required vaccine passports to attend a game, then they’d be losing actual dollars. Their solution gets dollars from both camps.

As I explained above, you’re a LOT more protected if your herd is also vaccinated.

Look man, I have a lot of gray area with this shit…I simply am appalled at the politicization of the virus and doubling and tripling down on the mitigation, and mandates. But not feeling safe AFTER you got a vaccination (if indeed it works, you got it for a reason) is a reflection of a ridiculously paranoid person. That is what you call an IRRATIONAL FEAR…These people should not be catered to in any way whatsoever

I agree - but at the end of the day you’re simply not going to convince some people to get vaccinated.

It’s almost like smoking. Might it be bad for you? Yes. Do you assume the risks if you do it? Yes.

So fuck. It’s time to get back to normal.

I disagree. I would stay home just because of this. It’s political. Don’t like it.

I know others feel the same.

You’ll never get it. The vast majority of people don’t want politics in their sports. It absolutely makes their stomachs turn and blood boil.

I can barely watch sports anymore. I know many in this very forum fee the same.

These professional leagues need to stop jumping into this shit. They need to do what their good at- entertain us. Period. Full stop.

Skeeter, I get the sentiment, and some people absolutely let fear of covid take over their lives, but vaccines are meant to work in a herd. Why do you think students are required to have hep and polio and measles vaccines? It’s because a) a tiny amount of vaccinated people can still get sick, and b) certain populations can’t get the vaccine.

The whole concept of “herd immunity” applies to vaccines, so I know you know what I’m talking about.

Okay, maybe this is true, but wouldn’t a lot of people also stay at home with the hardline approach? You require vaccine passports, then non-vaxxed can’t attend. You say, screw it, pack the seats whether you’re vaxxed or not? Then tons of people will think it’s dangerous to go.

At least this way they’re offering an approach for both camps. If certain people want to boycott because they don’t like the approach, that’s on them, but the important thing is MLB didn’t tell you not to go, they didn’t tell you you couldn’t go… that’s your decision.

I absolutely get that, and agree with it. BUT I don’t see this as politics. If this was virtue signaling, they wouldn’t have a non-vaxxed section at all.

This policy is literally attending to concerns of the public. And not only that, if I’m not mistaken, this is for New York, which was hit very hard and probably has less people with your mindframe in it. They are capitalists who want to sell tickets, and to do that they’re appeasing the public.

No it isn’t…It is 1000% hey look at me, I’m not a heathen red state.

Yes it is… It is 1000% hey, you care about this, we do too, come have a seat.
