Not sure how anyone can reasonable look at Biden’s EO to stop the Keystone Pipeline and say it was for the purpose of saving the Earth. The oil will still move into the US and it will be used but how that oil moves into the US is most important to Biden more so than Mother Nature. The oil will move by way of railway; Warren Buffet’s railway and Buffet will recoup some 58 million dollars as a result (look for the exact number) of the pipeline being put on hold. Buffet, by the way, personally donated $250k to Biden’s campaign and I’d imagine Buffet made other donations through corporations and the like (the dark money as its called).
Thousands of jobs lost. Good paying American jobs…gone. The working class and the middle class will once again carry the cost for this policy as Biden’s cronies reap the rewards.
Stephen Milloy wrote an OP-Ed - https://blog.heartland.org/2021/01/bidens-attack-on-the-keystone-xl-pipeline-is-politics-not-policy/ where he outlines some of the other issues involved.
Yep. Huge mistake. It’s not just the pipeline workers, it’s the welders and the engineers associated with the pipeline. These are $80K to $100K jobs and many of them are the type that take years to learn. They can’t just switch over to renewable jobs overnight, and even if many of them did, they are at the bottom of the totem pole for those other jobs.
If we look at pollution, trains and trucks will carry the oil and will be far more damaging to the environment.
Even Trudeau is saying this is a bad idea. That’s saying something for him to speak up.
The Keystone Pipeline illustrates what liars they are.
It’s not an environmental decision. The pipeline is still running. The only difference today from last week is that there are less American jobs.
That’s it. Nothing else.
Just wait for “new” developments to pop up in Syria leading to a “justification” to invade Syria or at least promote an additional revolution to remove Assad.
Some history:
2009 the Qatar to Turkey pipeline (natural gas is a biggie here…Qatar basically holds 2/3 of the world’s natural gas; their leaving OPEC a year or so back was important) was negotiated and started. Assad baulked at the arrangement due to his ties to Russia and Iran (the Iranian pipeline also runs through Syria and Assad has defense pacts with Russia, Iran, and China).
With the Keystone pipeline done for (trains and trucks will now move that oil), the average price for a barrel of oil will jump from $10 to $35 making many Biden benefactors happy. This will also make DC insiders happy as we will start to see some strong rhetoric aimed at the Middle East primarily Syria I’m sure and step up our interest in that region again.
We will also begin to see a heavier reliance on Chinese steel further hurting the American workers because those jobs will now be lost.
If I had to guess, now is the time to start buying up some Boeing, Lockheed-Martin, and Raytheon stock as their business will begin to boom in the coming months. Also worth selling that American steel stock and start buying Chinese steel stock and probably some Ukrainian oil stock…just a hunch.
The good old days are back fellas; enjoy it.
Huge mistake. Even Native Americans, formerly Indians, are angered by this job-killing executive order. Equally disgusting, this guy runs away from the press, doesn’t answer questions; he leaves the lying to smarmy Psaki whom I disliked during the Obama failure years. So what happens to the oil. Why it’s burned in China instead of her, and China doesn’t give a rip about pollution abatement.
Great post Silentobserver.
John Kerry flippantly said that laid off employees should just get jobs in the solar sector. You know. It’s just presto and you have a new job. Experienced pipeline welder get paid a quarter million dollars year. I am sure they’ll equal salaries putting together solar panels.
Man, you guys have been talking for years about the plight of pipeline welders. Looks like you’ve been right all along!
