I would venture to say half the people who say they enjoy soccer are lying. They are usually people incapable of forming their own opinions through assessment of evidence. They say they like soccer because they’ve been conditioned to like soccer. They are brainwashed by the media that soccer is interesting when it clearly is not, not even as interesting as watching clothes rotating through the clear window of a clothes dryer. It is a stultifyingly boring game.
Smart woman Ann Coulter identified what a dumb game soccer is years ago. In 2014, she wrote the appended article whose premise, I think, is as valid today as when it was first authored.
I played soccer decades ago from age 8 until into my adult life. Unfortunately the summer between my jr and senior year of high school in late 80s had my knee blown out for a bounty by the opposing team. Lost my opportunity to play in college and so on. Yes I am still bitter about it. To me I I have found people who did not grow up playing or watching it did not understand the game. It’s not all action all the time. You need to understand the flow and the motion of the game. Yes it can be slow to watch. But so is baseball. Plus you must remember it is played without using your hands so keep that in mind when watching
Also with all this over dramatic flopping around like they have been shot is so frustrating. Our own teammates would have kicked your ass if acted like that back in the day. Flopping around like a little bitch. Just embarrassing in my opinion.
Gocanes, I can relate to your opinion based on your experience. I rarely watch baseball because I find it boring, but I much enjoy playing baseball. I’ve never played soccer though I imagine I might enjoy playing soccer as well. I say imagine because there are not a lot of eighty-year olds playing anything. Since the US has been eliminated in the World Cup, my slight interest in the game has evaporated although I’d like to see Argentina win it solely because the New York Times is rooting for Spain.
Soccer’s a real sport. There are great players and chances for fame and shame. These guys are real athletes out there running all game.
If you wanted to, you can really get into it about any sport. Baseball players are fat, game could be slow too. Yes, soccer is low scoring and allows for ties, which I can understand rubs people the wrong way. At the same time I have the opposite criticism of basketball, where scores are constantly happening back and forth. It’s too much. But even then there’s a sport to how it plays out and what’s important.
The only huge nitpick I have with soccer is how much the players flop. This stuff could easily be fixed with some sportsmanship penalties. It’s a joke,
